The Context:
MSI’s program priorities and workforce have gone through substantial change over the last year under the leadership of a new CEO and President, Chevy Humphrey. MSI has developed a 5-year strategic plan with four strategic goals: modernize exhibits and visitor experience, strengthen relationships with the community, leverage educational programs for greater sustainability, and build capabilities and align talent with strategy. With these goals in place MSI is well positioned to expand on its mission to inspire the inventive genius in everyone.
The Job:
The Vice President of Human Resources, Chief of People and Culture reports directly to the Sr. Vice President, Chief Culture Strategist and is a critical member of MSI’s leadership team. This person will serve as the architect for creating a culture that helps nurture and cultivate how MSI’s diverse employees live our vision, mission and brand. This includes, but is not limited to, engagement, talent management, internal communications, diversity inclusion and equity, coaching, and labor management.
They will be a relationship builder, a team builder, and a leader of continuous improvement at every level of the organization. They will understand and proactively embrace the diversity of the workforce and the power of MSI’s brand to ensure the organizational culture and working environment is inspiring to all.
Based on this, MSI is seeking a candidate who will:
- Oversee the key functional areas of the Human Resources division including HR Operations, Benefits and Compensation, Talent Management, Internal Communications, Professional Development and Training, Employee Engagement and Labor Management.
- Facilitate and promote a culture of coaching and development for leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Set strategy through a long-term view of the overall landscape, creating an HR function that attracts, nurtures, and retains the best guest-focused, talented, creative, and innovative workforce by using practical and effective talent management strategies.
- Proactively stay current with the significant cultural changes in attitudes and values that are transforming today’s workforce and the strategies and tactics to best adapt the work environment and culture of MSI to recruit and retain the most effective workforce possible.
- Demonstrate results with a mission-focused staff and talented leadership team.
- Lead through effective partnership with the other members of the executive team, aligning the culture with the business needs of Museum.
- Build strong relationships as a ‘trusted advisor’ behind the scenes while also making external connections and providing context in shaping the organization.
- Flexibly tailor HR policies, practices and procedures to various departments’ needs within MSI and analyze Museum-wide policies that will allow the organization to stay nimble and cutting-edge.

Qualified Candidate Profile:
- 15+ years leading diverse human resource teams is required. Experience leading in high-growth organizations is a plus.
- JD strongly preferred with an understanding of labor and employment laws and a proven ability to manage labor relations
- Demonstrated success in setting strategy, executing for results, leading teams, building internal and external relationships, using influence, and operational agility
- Broad knowledge of human resources disciplines, including employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, compensation, and benefits required
- Strong business acumen with an operational efficiency focus
- Strategic understanding of leveraging data in decision-making
- Brings a nuanced and sophisticated approach to the HR function and organizational leadership
- Proactive, creative thinker with a keen ability to execute efficiently; excellent organizational skills needed to stay on track and pursue solutions
- Highly effective communication skills with the ability to synthesize ideas and present them in a poised & polished manner
- Ability to coach at all levels
