We are searching for candidates for a Manager, HR Faculty and Staff Services within the HR Employee Services team. In this role you will direct the day-to-day operations related to the HR Specialist team, which includes leading the weekly onboarding sessions, onboarding communications, assisting with onboarding tasks, I-9 compliance and accuracy reviews, updating expiring work authorization, benefit and retirement change processing, position management and Workday data review. Manage employee questions initiated through ServiceNow tickets and phone calls regarding onboarding, persona changes, benefits, I-9 compliance, position processing and payroll.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Review and uphold HR and Benefits compliance standards
- Manage dependent verification in Workday, required communications with employees and weekly dependent audit
- Assists with the planning and coordination of Benefits and Fitness Fair held in conjunction with Open Enrollment
- Oversee semi-annual dependent verification audit and quarterly position audit
- Assists with the execution of annual Open Enrollment from inception to end including system testing, preparation of communication materials, employee counseling, and year-end enrollment activities
- Work effectively to ensure benefit programs are administered accurately, timely and efficiently. Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Investigate discrepancies and provide resolution for escalated and complex issues.
- Manage the weekly onboarding session, onboarding communications including I-9 and vaccine compliance reminders and assistance with onboarding tasks
- Ensure Workday data review is completed prior to each payroll transmission and compliance with policies, plan documents, ERISA and federal and state regulations, including compliance responsibilities for process documentation and controls.
- Manage the position management function which includes position and job requisition creation, supervisory organization changes and delegation/role changes
- Oversee, document, and maintain administrative procedures for assigned processes
- Understands role of other team members and cross-trains duties and responsibilities as necessary
- Build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across campus and within HR
- Investigates and provides resolution for escalated and complex issues (SN tickets, emails. Phone calls)
- Oversee the weekly emails to monitor for benefit compliance
- Manage the annual communication allowance renewal process
- Backup for HR Specialist duties during peak periods or vacations
- Directs and leads staff in troubleshooting and resolving problems and issues in the operation of all identified systems, including analysis of the problem/issue, working of logged cases, working with technical development teams, testing solutions and coordinating the solutions with other impacted stakeholders. Identify and develop guidance and mentorship to HR Specialists regarding best practices with Workday
Other duties include:
- Manages and/or participates in specific HR-related project initiatives. Works with different teams in the development and implementation of existing and new initiatives. Participate in the implementation of new functionalities related to HR, which may include fit/gap analysis, business process redesign, system testing, documentation, training, and deployment.
- Identifies and manages other activities related to CMU's systems to gain best practices by utilizing existing and new system components. This includes the analysis of the impact of proposed changes to ensure that any disruption to operations and system users is minimized and the audit and correction of data errors or other issues based on the analysis of the work.
- Works on special projects as needed.
- Assists with process and system audits
- Attends campus and departmental meetings as needed. Participates and presents on areas of responsibility. Additionally, participate and collaborate with campus partners to identify strategic initiatives and priorities
- Other duties as assigned.

- Data analysis skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Effective presentation skills (in a group setting) of onboarding/payroll/HR/benefit information during weekly onboarding sessions
- Critical thinking skills to identify process efficiencies and problem-solving
- Active listening skills to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task effectively while remaining organized
- Knowledge of benefit and retirement administration
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A degree in Business or related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 - 8 years of related experience
Preferred Experience:
- Supervisor experience
- Knowledge of Workday (specifically transaction processing and I-9 processing) and ServiceNow (ticketing system)
- Understanding of I-9 requirements and processing, health & welfare benefit plans and retirement plans
