The position will support the achievement of the vision, mission and strategic goals of department/school by helping to attract, retain and manage our most valued assetsâ”our employees. Position will play a vital role in the operations of the department/school by providing guidance on human resources policies and processes and payroll to administration, managers and employees.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Human Resources
- Oversees all operations for faculty and staff recruiting, record keeping, and other HR related functions to ensure that all university and school policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensures accuracy in the hiring process and employment issues associated with international staff and faculty (obtaining H1-B visas, obtaining permanent residence).
- Advises supervisors and departmental administration about general university human resources policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all employment laws.
Payroll/Compensation
- Oversees all payroll functions to ensure accuracy and timely payment for all faculty, staff, students and stipend recipients. Provides training and guidance to payroll staff and ensure compliance with all university policies, procedures and employment laws.Â
- Manages tracking and payment of all faculty additional pays, to include ensuring that all contracts and agreements are up to date.
- Makes recommendations for staff salary offers.
- Oversees the performance review and merit increase process each year.
- Ensures that all operational aspects related to payroll and workday records are accurate, including payroll costing allocations and payroll allocation adjustments.
Special Projects
- To include data analytics, process review and refinement and implementation of various strategies and programs as assigned.Â
- Works closely with the Associate Dean of Administration to recommend and develop policies and programs relative to the human resources/payroll operations.
Supervises and coordinates human resources and payroll staff.Â
- Effectively manages performance and development of staff to maximize efficiency through training and timely coaching.Â
- Sets a tone of leadership that is people-oriented, collaborative in nature and builds a management culture based on teamwork, open communication, innovation, mentoring and accountability. This is achieved through frequent meetings with team members to ensure high standards of service delivery.
Working Conditions
Ability to move to on, and off-campus locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years experience at management level.
- Masterâ™s Degree preferred with five to seven years of experience in human resources management.
- SHRM certification of CP or SCP, or equivalent from other certifying agencies.
- Total confidentiality and sensitivity are essential.
- Strong coaching skills and able to work with people displaying various emotional levels.
- Detail oriented with ability to multi-task.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work successfully under pressure.
- Ability to work with a diverse level of people.
- Familiar with employment law and higher education sector and other relevant sectors of the employment mark.
- Demonstrated skills in counseling; coaching; mediating; and facilitating.
- Demonstrated skills in decision-making; negotiating; and influencing.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated effective analytical skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent plus five years of work experience in human resources.
- Experience in interpreting and applying human resources-related policies, and state and federal employment laws.
- Experience using HR management systems and employee recruitment applications.

Salary Range
$62,000.00 - $106,000.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
