Department Summary & Job Purpose: In partnership with the Mount Holyoke College community, the Human Resources (HR) Department supports the mission of the College by providing programs and services that attract, develop and retain a highly qualified and diverse workforce. The Employee Relations and Accommodations Coordinator - Human Resources Generalist incumbent will primarily provide advisory services to employees on human resources employee matters as well as oversee and be the primary contact for faculty and staff as they proceed through the accommodations process. This role expects exceptional communication and organizational skills, superior attention to detail, ability to prioritize, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and employee-centric focus. Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: Employee Accommodations: - Provides end-to-end case management for the life cycle of accommodation; communicates decisions, and partners for the implementation of accommodation, and maintains up-to-date case records.
- Acts as a guide and mentor for faculty, staff, and prospective employees on the employee accommodations process, answers questions and addresses concerns, and collaborates with the Director of Accessible Education and 504 Coordinator as needed.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as well as state disability laws. Keeps current with national, state, and local legislation affecting access for applicants, candidates, and staff with disabilities.
- Develops and delivers training on the accommodations process as needed.
Employee Relations: - Provides effective advisory service to employees in relation to human resources policies and procedures and all other employee-relations matters.
- Assists in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of the employee handbook, and organizational charts, and contributes to the development of policies.
- Supports the performance management process by collecting evaluations, reviewing for completeness, and monitoring for adherence to the timeline.
- Coordinates the Employee Service awards under the supervision of the Employee Relations and Talent Development Manager.
Relationship Management: - Maintains a superior level of care and service throughout all interactions; takes appropriate actions to earn staff trust and confidence; anticipates the needs of employees and takes action as appropriate.
- Works with internal partners to support flexibility and collaboration, fosters a positive work environment, consistently maintains professionalism and integrity, actively takes steps to foster high morale, and demonstrates a dedication to excellence.

Qualifications: - Associate’s Degree and or three (3) to five (5) years of professional Human Resources experience required.
- Knowledge of human resources state and federal laws. Demonstrates commitment to staying abreast of human resources management best practices.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully promote a work environment that values the principles of the MHC community and supports respectful interactions.
- Ability to effectively serve as an advocate, resolve issues, and implement creative solutions.
- Proven ability to interact effectively within a dynamic team-oriented environment.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and pulling data from multiple sources.
- Sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information and documents with a high degree of discretion.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence others.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with staff at all levels of an organization; a comfort in working effectively with culturally diverse groups of individuals and able to successfully manage the dynamic and differing needs, interests, and viewpoints of multiple stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of federal and state disability laws, specifically ADA/ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Knowledge of the interplay between ADA/ADAAA, FMLA, and workers’ compensation.
- PHR certification
