Department Overview
The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
Function/Duties of Position
The Human Resources Coordinator provides administration support to the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) Senior HR Manager and performs HR-related duties on a professional level under their direction. The HR Coordinator provides a range of essential HR duties including, but not limited to, performing recruitment related activities, posting and managing recruitments online, onboarding of new employees, volunteers, and trainees, triaging HR issues or concerns, processing all HR actions and serving as the Business Services Office timekeeper and backup to other timekeepers. This position works closely with OHSU central service units (HR Records, Payroll, central HR, and Benefits Office) on a regular basis, and participates in the Recruitment Committee and other HR workgroups for ongoing process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in HR, business or related field and 2 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, or equivalent education and experience
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to ensure and practice strict confidentiality with sensitive employee information, both electronically and with physical paperwork
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in de-escalation, managing difficult conversations and navigating conflict resolution conversations
- Expert and attentive customer service skills, both in-person and via phone
- Demonstrated ability to employ sound critical thinking skills, manage competing demands and prioritize work appropriately
- Ability to competently use computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
- Able to generate and run reports and database inquiries
- Demonstrated ability to perform data entry of both text and numerical information with high level of accuracy
- Ability to compile, organize, analyze, and present information to diverse employee populations
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail is a must
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task under pressure, manage competing demands and meet deadlines - including ability to prioritize, set obtainable goals, be self-directed, identify support needs and apply problem solving skills with initiative and motivation
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail is a must, including ability to track multiple tasks and projects through various stages of development and implementation
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction, also as a departmental support team member
- Knowledge of state and federal employment laws
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in human resources, administration, business, English or computer sciences
- Experience in HR and in high-volume environments strongly preferred
- Experience with Oracle and iCIMS preferred
- Previous experience with collective bargaining work environment
