Plans and implements human resources activities and initiatives for departments within particular functional units within the Division of Student Life & Engagement (SLE); administers and completes the hiring process for new team members, including staffing requests, hiring recommendations, cost distributions, wage increases, and other human resource transactions; processes new hire paperwork, including I-9 forms, hiring proposals, criminal background checks, and other required paperwork; during peak hiring times, assists HR Coordinators with student and on-call hiring paperwork; interprets and applies Federal/State laws, MSU policies and procedures, and union contracts to provide information and guidance to managers to resolve questions and ensure compliance with all MSU policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements; advises team members on human resource issues relating to University or divisional policies and procedures or other related questions that may arise during employment; assists with the development of human resource policies and procedures for SLE as needed; oversees onboarding process for new team members, including facilitating unit orientation programs, reviewing MSU and SLE policies and procedures, scheduling required trainings, and other related activities; assists with and conducts divisional orientation and training to support the SLE training team; provides instructions and assistance to new team members so they may complete mandatory compliance training; oversees the performance evaluation process and procedures including tracking to ensure timely submission of all evaluations; compiles various human resource reports; updates organizational charts; collects and utilizes HR related data regarding the functional unit; serves as a liaison between SLE human resources and MSU human resources; creates and maintains human resource files; coordinates operational activities and performs related administrative duties as assigned; assists with various SLE HR special projects as assigned.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in human resources or a related social science field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a human resources function or human resources area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of MSU HR practices and policies; working knowledge of EBS, PageUp, and Equifax system; experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, and gender backgrounds; demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters and materials.
