Position Title:
Human Resources Generalist
Department: HR Supervisor: Executive Director of Human Resources
The Human Resources Generalist performs a full range of HR responsibilities and duties that includes recruiting, yearly performance management coordination, supporting the administration of LOA and the interactive process, oversight and support the HR Coordinator with worker’s compensation administration, payroll back-up and performing other related HR services offered by the Office of Human Resources. This position also coordinates HR services with other campus departments, other Claremont Colleges, and The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) a shared service organization for The Claremont Colleges.
Hiring and Termination
In conjunction with the Human Resources Coordinator:
- Manage hiring of all faculty. Work with Office of the Dean of Faculty to ensure timely hiring.
- Manage termination process for Faculty and Staff, including communications, follow up, timely processing of final checks, accrual balances and updating of HRIS and payroll systems.
New Hire Orientation and Onboarding
- Conduct new hire orientations for staff and faculty, in groups or individually.
- Coordinate with the HR Coordinator to ensure new hires receive welcome and orientation packets and other onboarding communications.
- Conduct and review ongoing program assessment with the Director and AVP of HR.
- Research and propose recommendations for program changes.
Leave of Absence Administration
- Manage employee leaves of absence in compliance with policies and regulations (i.e. disability leaves, FMLA, CFRA, College leaves, etc.). Coordinate with the Dean of Faculty for faculty leaves.
- Remain current on state and federal changes to leave regulations and ensure the College’s compliance.
- Determine eligibility, track leave usage, and coordinate supplementation payments.
- Conduct employee interactive process regarding leave processes and paperwork.
- Manage all follow up and correspondence with employees and management regarding status of leaves, expected return to work dates, and healthcare provider certifications.
- Keep the Human Resources team, TCCS Disability office and TCCS Benefits office apprised of the status of leaves of absence in accordance with payroll deadlines and as needed.
- Create and maintain forms, document templates, flow charts, and other materials for leave of absence communications and recordkeeping.
Workers Compensation
- Work with managers to coordinate, implement and document accommodations, light-duty, and other responses for injured or disabled employees. Manage the Return-to-Work program and records for workers’ compensation accommodations.
Recruiting:
- Assist and provide backup support for HR Recruiter with staff recruitment process.
- Provide feedback on system processes and documentation. Stay current on new strategies, assess for appropriateness, and provide recommendations.
- Partner with Director of HR on strategic recruitment initiatives and approaches. Where needed, work with hiring supervisors to ensure efficient and effective search practices.
- Review and create staff job descriptions. Conduct job analysis for new or revised positions.
- Prepare job postings, announcements and additional advertisements as needed.
- Actively partner with the HR Coordinator when conducting background checks, physical requirements tests, affirmative action reporting in compliance with laws.
Payroll: Act as backup to HR Administrator & Payroll Liaison .
- Once a quarter process bi-weekly and monthly payroll on behalf of the HR Administrator & Payroll Liaison Act as liaison between TCCS and Pitzer payroll
- Troubleshoot time & attendance and payroll questions.
- Conduct training for individuals and groups as needed.
- Assist supervisors, staff and students with payroll, human resources and time and attendance questions.
- Prepare and process all payroll documents required to complete payroll, including interim or special payments, as needed.
- Ensure timely input and processing of new employees into the HRIS system of record (Workday).

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in human resources and minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience working in a fast paced and strategic HR environment or 8-10 years equivalent HR experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Being bilingual is highly preferred.

- Must have access to a dedicated and suitable workstation at remote location, including desk or table and supporting, upright chair. Must ensure workstation is safe and free from hazards.
Supervisory Responsibility: No. May provide training and work assignments to a student/temporary employee as needed.
Licenses/Certifications: SPHR/PHR, SPHR-CA/PHR-CA, SHRM-CP/SCP certification is highly preferred.
Time Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Annual Pay Schedule: 12
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this position are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These hours may vary due to needs of the College or department. Opportunity for a hybrid remote work schedule.

Compensation: Starting Pay: $72,000 per year

Physical Requirements: This is generally a sedentary position. Must be able to:
- Sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Operate a computer for prolonged periods of time.

- Have the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment. (large capacity copier, filling cabinet, fax machine, etc.)
- Assist with the set-up and teardown of event tables, signage and other materials
- Reach outward, over shoulder, and overhead
- Do repetitive motions with hands
- Stoop, bend, twist turn, kneel, crawl and squat
- Have strong stamina
- Push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift/carry up to 20 pounds
- Drive a electric cart and standard vehicle.
