Position Summary
The Senior Manager HR will serve as a trusted advisor and partner to senior leaders across University Advancement and offer strategic expertise in areas of performance management, employee relations and HR policy. The Senior Manager HR will be responsible for creating and delivering human resources strategies that support the departmentâ™s mission and strategic objectives in the areas of employee relations. This role will be critical in helping Advancement with best practices that enable retaining and growing teams. The Senior Manager HR will partner closely with leaders, managers and staff as well as Central HR to assess and address HR needs, which will include coaching and support to managers and employees for a variety of employee relations issues. The person in this role will also supervise the HR Specialist and oversee onboarding, performance management and other employee relations programs. The Senior Manager HR will report to the Senior Director University Advancement Administration and Talent and will be a part of the senior leadership for the Advancement Administration team.
Job Description
This position requires some traveling among campuses.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Program Implementation
Collaborate with and obtain guidance from Central HR Employee Relations on UA employee relations issues.
Serve as UA lead on employee relations issues including investigations and terminations.
Counsels department management on disciplinary, training or other measures which resolve or address employee performance or conduct problems.
Counsel nonsupervisory staff on work practices to enhance their work experience while demonstrating optimal work performance.
Monitor and coordinate the performance evaluation process; recommend and help develop performance improvement strategies.
Strategy and Design
Create an overarching employee relations strategy.
Develop and deliver an organizational development strategy and tools, including a commitment to the fundamentals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Partners with senior leaders to identify trends within the department and each unit that require proactive engagement and recommends strategies, policies or procedural changes to enhance performance effectiveness.
Partners with senior leaders and assists in identifying and resolving problems with staff, processes, policies, or organizational structure to ensure the sustenance of a positive environment.
Collaborate with Central HR Employee Relations on UA employee relations strategy.
Staff Supervision
Supervise the HR Specialist and oversee and participate in carrying out onboarding, performance review process and the hybrid work programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic or non-profit setting.
Ability to analyze and resolve highly nuanced problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to think creatively, and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness.
Ability to identify and analyze ineffective complex processes and develop / implement streamlined logical processes.
High degree of professionalism and absolute confidentiality in handling information including information related to the universityâ™s employees and greatest benefactors.
Very strong leader, team-oriented, with outstanding interpersonal skills including discretion, flexibility, and sensitivity to others; excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s Degree
Eight years of professional experience in finance, human resources, administrative management, or a closely related field.

Salary Range
$70,300.00 - $120,000.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
