The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice Dean of Administration and Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing exceptional strategic and tactical leadership for all human resources functions of all administrative staff at Columbia Business School (CBS). Collaborating closely with leadership, the incumbent will serve as the School???s organizational design architect and partner with senior leaders across Central HR, OGC, Labor Relations, and other Columbia schools and departments to support and align the goals of the Columbia Business School???s mission and talent strategy goals. The Senior Director will design and implement strategies focused on attracting, retaining, and developing employees in all areas of the employee life cycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, learning and development, employee relations, and career pathways.
Responsibilities
Talent Management
In partnership with School leadership, develop and lead strategies designed for building a culture and associated programs to ensure that CBS is a place where staff can grow in their careers, focusing on learning and development programs, management and leadership development, performance management, and succession planning.
Participate in organizational planning and design meetings with senior leadership to set HR initiatives, strategic direction, and operational plans.
Conduct and analyze needs assessments that leverage people analytics to create meaningful and actionable insights designed to develop and nurture performance and engage employees about career pathways.
Manage the full suite of professional development programming for staff, including open programs, cohort programs, and leadership development, leveraging internal and external resources.
Liaise with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) department to leverage inclusive strategies focusing on recruiting, engagement, and development for CBS employees
Analyze HR metrics within CBS and make recommendations concerning attrition, staffing, training and development, and compensation matters.
Talent Acquisition
Lead the team responsible for ensuring that CBS is optimally staffed with exceptional individuals set up for success in their roles. Analyze organizational design and recommend staffing plans, consulting with managers across the School.
Develop and execute a talent acquisition process, bringing a thoughtful approach to sourcing, evaluating, and selecting excellent candidates to CBS???s current and long-term hiring needs.
Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to onboard new staff to ensure each new hire has the tools they need to succeed in their role and as a CBS community member.
Establish talent acquisition success criteria through data and metrics that demonstrate ROI.
Provide leadership and subject matter expertise on talent in a competitive landscape to Managers.
Employee Relations
Direct strategies by collaborating with leadership to determine accountabilities, communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures. Support staff and managers through complex challenges, seeking to prevent issues before they arise and partner on solutions when needed.
Serve as a management resource to all staff, providing counsel and coaching on all areas of HR policy and staffing issues. Advise management and make recommendations on addressing employee conduct and performance concerns, including assisting in developing and delivering appropriate feedback and corrective action that aligns with consistent processes.
Lead, direct, and strengthen employee relations expertise across the HR team in identifying issues and providing advice and counsel to staff.
Represent the School on union (Local 2110) matters; initiate and approve actions related to discipline; represent the School at Collective Bargaining Agreement grievances.
Work independently with managers across the School and University partners, including CU Human Resources and the Office of General Counsel, where appropriate.
Management & Operations
Work closely with the Vice Dean to align long-range human resource initiatives with School objectives.
Collaborate with the Senior Director of Academic Personnel & Operations to align and create efficiencies in all HR-related people processes (including recruitment, employee relations, and career development). Partners on overall management and operations of the office.
Ensure compliance with and interprets complex University policies and audit requirements related to HR; understand and comply with Federal and State policies related to human resources functions.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. At least 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience in leading, developing, administering, and evaluating human resource policies and programs.
Must demonstrate a deep understanding and application of HR functions, including employment and labor law compliance, compensation, recruitment, employee and labor relations, organizational development, and performance management. Proven ability and expertise in implementing best practices by gathering data, analyzing issues, and addressing gaps that align with strategic goals.
Must be a result-oriented, goal-oriented individual with the stability, persistence, and patience necessary to gain credibility and work effectively with various internal and external constituents.
Exhibits a high degree of emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate complex priorities. Skilled at partnership and relationship building with key stakeholders across the school and university.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty and staff. Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Ability to impact, influence, and drive action and accountability in others. Strong coaching and partnering capability to mentor staff with compassion and empathy.
Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and ethics with high standards. Ability to manage confidential information professionally and discreetly.
Preferred Qualifications
PHR/SHRM certification is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing a business unit budget.
