The Director of Human Resources is a full-time, 12-month position that is responsible for administration of all of the human resource functions of a three-campus school, including administering the recruitment, hiring, retention, termination, personnel records, employment law compliance, compensation, benefits, and employee relations. The Director reports directly to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer and receives support and coordination from the Head of School, three campus directors, and two administrative personnel.
Essential Functions:
Manages all hiring which includes ongoing recruitment, posting of open positions, organizing and being a part of interviews, and facilitating onboarding for new hires
Oversees and ensures background and reference checks are satisfactory and continually ensures clearances are current for all employees.
Maintains and updates Employee Handbook for the School and recommends changes to the senior leadership team.
Develops and maintains job descriptions for all employees. Completes periodic job description audit and reclassifies employees, as appropriate, under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Ensures compliance with federal and state statues/laws, such as, FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, Title VII, and ERISA.
Manages open enrollment for all benefit plans.
Coordinates all benefit programs for employees, including all employee communications, problem solving, and claims resolution.
Ensures all benefit plans comply with applicable laws and statutes (HIPPA, ERISA, and IRS guidelines).
Researches and implements benefit programs, as needed.
Manages the enrollment, terminations, and contributions for all benefit plans and works with the Business Office to reconcile invoices and contributions after each funding period. Manages completion of any annual reporting for benefit plans.
Serves as a critical resource advising managers how to better communicate with their teams, support the development of key team members, address underperforming employees, resolve conflict, communicate expectations, and ensure team goals are being accomplished.
Manages employee separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations.
Manages and resolves employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
Works closely with administration and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Ensures all quarterly and annual State Unemployment Insurance reports are completed.
Completes annual compensation and benefit surveys.
Assists in development and maintenance of Faculty Salary/Compensation Scale.
Provides training for department heads, campus directors, and supervisors on various human resource topics.
Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met. (some examples include, sexual harassment prevention and bloodborne pathogens training)
Manages Workers Compensation program (file claims, follow-up, etc.).
Ensures all employee files are complete with all necessary paperwork.
Serves as the source of information for all faculty, staff, and external contacts on established policy and procedures.
Responsible for input regarding the human resources portion of the overall School budget, including the cost of benefits.
Completes other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
B.S. Degree in Human Resources with a minimum of five years’ experience (independent school experience preferred) or relevant experience in a Human Resource or related field.
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
Experience with and possessing the ability to apply principles, practices, and techniques of human resources, benefit analysis, and administration, including the interpretation of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Proficiency with Excel and Word, a must.
Experience with iSolved and Google Workspace for Education (preferred)
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
Ability to maintain all employee information with absolute confidentiality.
Must be able to plan, organize, and carry out assignments from administration with minimal direction.
Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Experience with writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Must be able to present information and respond to questions from groups in a concise and professional manner.
