The Manager, Compensation & Benefits supervises the work activities of the Compensation Specialist, Payroll, and the HR Generalist-Benefits and is responsible for the organization’s pay and benefits structure. The Manager uses competitive wage rates to develop or modify compensation and incentive plans, and manages outside partners such as benefits vendors, insurance brokers, and compensation consultants. The Manager also ensures all compensation and benefits plans comply with federal and state regulations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Partners with employees and management to communicate various policies, procedures, laws, standards, best practices, and government regulations.
Complies with federal, state, and local employment law by studying new and existing legislation, anticipating new requirements, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
Proactively drives HR Compensation and Benefits strategy within the organization as aligned with business goals.
Manages employee benefits function, working with HR Generalist – Benefits.
Participates in annual insurance renewal and open enrollment process; performs annual benefits premium analysis and presents recommendations to VP, Human Resources.
Designs, recommends and implements new benefits programs and policies.
Assists with managing employee Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD).
Manages compliance with all benefit plans; includes defined benefit plan, traditional 401(k), Roth 401(k), Retiree Reimbursement Account, Pension Plan, Dependent Care FSA, Medical FSA, Affordable Care Act compliance, Workers Compensation, etc.
Ensures compliance with annual IRS 5500 filings, working with various vendors to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
Assists in calculating monthly and quarterly incentive payouts for Business Services, Mortgage Loan Officers, SBA Lending, and Truliant Financial Advisors. Ensures payouts are approved by management and communicated to payroll in time for payout.
Works with outside vendors to administer and direct the compensation program for the Credit Union as well as directing all aspects of the Credit Union’s day-to-day salary administration program.
Assist with external salary surveys or employment surveys as required by various government agencies.
Works with the VP, Human Resources on the annual and mid-year merit increase process.
Prepares compensation and/or benefits reports for various departments and senior management as needed.
Complies with federal, state, and local employment law by studying new and existing legislation, anticipating new requirements, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions, with input from general counsel.
Evaluates reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to affect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
Reviews commission or incentive plans annually (Business Services, Mortgage Loan Officers, Truliant Financial Advisors, etc.) and makes recommendations on changes or updates to existing plans based on market analysis and research.
Manages in various benefits and compensation audits and provides information to auditors as needed.
Trains and develops human resources benefits staff to ensure cross-training and job enrichment.
Participates in the annual performance review process, including writing and delivering reviews.
Interviews candidates for open positions, as needed.
Assists in developing department budget and is responsible for adhering to fiscal guidelines.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Physical Requirements
Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds
Education and Background
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
PHR (Professional Human Resources), or CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) required, SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resources) preferred
Minimum of 5 years previous human resources experience required
Minimum of 3 years management experience required
Previous experience with Workday HRIS software preferred
