Location:HYBRID -Chaska, MN (MN Landscape Arboretum) and remote
Starting Salary: $66,000 - $71,000 ; depending on education/experience and internal equity
About the Position
The MN Landscape Arboretum invites applicants for part-time, HR Generalist II to provide recruitment and staffing needs, train hiring managers and search committees, conduct compensation analysis (including recommendations for starting salaries, promotions/reclassifications, and internal equity reviews), administer leaves of absence (including monitoring FMLA), and support special projects and other duties, as assigned.
Responsibilities
Recruitment and Classification (50%)
Consult with leadership on all staffing needs; advise on recruitment and classification processes
Act as the primary liaison for the recruitment process, including: job analysis and the creation of job descriptions, recommend job classifications, approve and process job postings
Evaluate position descriptions and determine appropriate classifications, appointment types and recruitment strategies for faculty, professional & administrative, civil service, labor represented, and student positions in consultation with administrators and hiring managers
Facilitate training on recruitment including selection, implicit bias, strategies for diversifying hires
Facilitate onboarding activities
Participate in search committees and provide guidance on recruitment, EOAA goal setting, behavioral interviewing techniques, finalist pools, reference and background checking, and new hire onboarding
Conduct I-9 background checks, including Safety of Minors (SOM) background checks, as applicable; work with leadership and the HR Consultant to resolve compliance issues
Other duties as assigned
HR Processes and General Support (30%)
Administer the ArbHr email account and respond in a timely manner (same day or next business day); Escalate complex issues to the Arboretum HR Consultant
Facilitate HR onboarding, offboarding, new employee orientation, development, and employee engagement activities as assigned
Process and analyze HR reports including EOAA goals, leave tracking, probationary employees, performance management and other HR metrics
Collaborate with payroll on wage changes (including bargaining unit wage changes); Process required wage theft/wage change notices
Provide guidance on University and Arboretum policies, procedures, and processes; assist in implementation as needed
Ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws and regulations; provide guidance and training to employees as appropriate
Compensation (10%)
Audit compensation data and recommend equitable, competitive salaries based on the job classification, candidates’ knowledge, skills and abilities, market data, hard to fill/turnover data and internal equity
Perform compensation audits based on University policies, compliance and equity, and recommend salary adjustments
Leave Management (10%)
Administer leaves of absences; provide timely and accurate information to employees and leadership as applicable
Maintain and preserve confidentiality of employee medical documentation
Collaborate with Employee Benefits, Disability Services, and UReturn for medical/disability leaves and requests for return-to-work accommodations, as needed
Investigate reported health & safety concerns and facilitate Workers' Compensation claims as applicable
Maintain knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws (including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws); Draft and/or recommends revisions to leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field with two (2) or more years of professional HR related work experience, or a combination of related education and/or relevant work experience totaling six (6) or more years
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
A proven track record of working with individuals with diverse identities and underrepresented communities
Preferred Qualifications
SHRM-CP or PHR
Knowledge of PeopleSoft
A proven record of recruiting qualified applicants
Experience with FMLA and leaves of absence
DEI certification (e.g., University of Minnesota OED Certificate or equivalent); certificate in progress
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
The ability to problem-solve technical or operational issues with moderate supervision
