The Director of HR Strategic Initiatives is a hybrid position, leading and collaborating on strategic initiatives that contribute most significantly to our HR transformation efforts, particularly those that improve, transform and ???scale-up??? the human resources function. The Director will contribute project management, strategy, goal planning, business analysis, process improvement, and communications expertise on a portfolio of high-impact strategic initiatives. This position reports to the Vice President for HR Strategic Initiatives, who is an experienced, collaborative leader with broad industry and HR experience.
The Director will lead two teams, one that provides project planning and management, business process redesign, and best-practices research, and one that provides HR communications/digital support to help HR achieve its strategic priorities. When needed, the team is also mobilized to assist with rapid response projects.??

Overall: Provide team leadership by setting clear goals to achieve the best results and greatest impact. Motivate and enable the team to meet goals and produce high-quality work, adopt new technology, and provide excellent service. Coach, develop, and mentor members of the team to attain high levels of performance and engagement.
Strategic Planning: Lead the process to develop and align long- and short-term (annual) HR goals with DFCI???s broader objectives and priorities. To inform HR strategy and goals: assess organizational needs; analyze performance measures, metrics, and feedback; and conduct institutional, benchmarking and best practices research. Ensure there is appropriate (vertical) alignment of HR strategic objectives with the annual departmental goals of the HR teams. Consult as needed with other administrative functions to ensure lateral alignment and coordination. Collaborate with the Managing Director of Human Resources on the development of project and annual budgets and the business case for new investments in HR.
HR Business Transformation/Strategic Initiatives: Help to define the achievable scope, objectives, and project plan for business transformation/strategic initiatives. Directly manage some of these high-impact projects. For projects managed by others on the team, provide guidance and coaching, monitor progress and risks, and suggest mid-course corrections, risk mitigations, and other interventions as needed. Cultivate strong relationships and credibility with business owners and functional leadership to align on project objectives that appropriately balance the need for change and improvement with executional risks.
Project/Program Management: Oversee the HR Project Management function that provides expertise and resources across HR to define project management standards, practices, and tools that are effective, and consistent with those used at the Institute more broadly. Mentor and develop project management capabilities/capacity on the team and across HR.
HR Communications: Oversee the HR Communications function, responsible for employer brand management and HR???s digital presence. Ensure the team creates useful, relevant, inclusive, and compelling content for multiple audiences and across multiple platforms. Typical content includes HR-related news, announcements, presentations, ???how to??? instructions, change management communications, and collateral materials on DFCI???s wide range of employee offerings. There will be significant focus on creating a high-quality user experience as we transition to a new intranet platform and new HR service delivery model.
Rapid Response: At the request and direction of the SVP or VP for Strategic Initiatives, mobilize the team to help manage short-term rapid (or crisis) response to unusual situations/disruptions or events that have significant impact on DFCI???s workforce or Human Resources.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor???s degree required; Masters preferred
10 years strongly relevant professional and managerial experience required
Project Management Professional certification or equivalent experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Use data and information to detect and characterize problems and opportunities, develop solutions, and create a compelling narrative. Can think strategically. Comprehend, synthesize, organize, and present complex information in a way that clarifies issues and enables forward momentum. Leverages change management principals in implementing new programs and approaches.
Functional expertise: Skilled, with demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, program/project management, process improvement, and employee communications/program marketing. Accurately scope out and estimate projects, recognizing complexity and risk, and manage projects effectively. Solid knowledge of core HR processes and functions. Experience managing the impact of significant HR-related organizational change (such as, implementing new HR systems, the deployment of new HR service delivery models, changing HR business processes, or introducing new employee-facing programs or policies) is a plus.?? Past experience in large scale, complex, mission-driven institutions is beneficial. Experience in HR digital platform design or leading the redesign of digital platforms/intranets is a plus.
