Job Summary:
The Manager, HR Data Analytics performs data analysis and develops metrics, reporting, and predictive analytics to support data-driven employment and recruiting decisions for the Office of Human Resources and Northwesterns schools and units. The position is responsible for overseeing annual and quarterly reporting requirements, developing ad hoc reports on demographics, and creating a suite of analytics to inform recruiting and engagement activities. The position also coordinates market research and peer benchmark analysis, educates staff regarding using data to inform strategy and programming decisions, and promotes a data-driven culture.
Partners with clients to design, develop, implement, and maintain business solutions regarding data management and analysis. This includes database administration, data consolidation, data analysis, and management reporting. Collaborates with various functional teams across HR and NU to achieve business results.
Consults with users to define detailed requirements, analyze business needs, consider current and future business implications, translate functional into technical requirements, validate solutions, and drive business process improvement efforts.
Specific Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
Defines project tasks, milestones, and deliverables that meet stated project objectives and conform to initiative methodology standards.
Consults with content experts, junior analysts, and end users to document and analyze functional requirements, identify gaps and alternative approaches to meet requirements, and ensure all deliverables completed (adhering to approved methodology and documentation standards).
Contributes to defining methodology and documentation standards, and periodically reviewing them to integrate appropriate industry practices.
Represents organizational area regarding advisory groups, planning committees, and similar standing work groups whose purpose is to develop requirements related to the implementation of enterprise business systems.
Administration/Management
Coordinates project resources to ensure that tasks are completed on schedule and that issues, risks and variances are identified and escalated in a timely manner.
Manages three Analysts
Works closely with the HR Project Manager and Analysts to coordinate resources for large requests, and to facilitate process updates, system enhancements, and software implementations.
Collaborates with HR colleagues to provide strategic recommendations on technology, tools, and process revisions that impact data consistency and quality.
Builds strong working relationship with internal and external clients.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Partners with colleagues to identify analytical requirements based on business objectives.
Utilizes multiple quantitative and qualitative data sets from a variety of sources and interprets results using advanced analytical techniques, including data mining, predictive analytics and statistical analysis.
Develops and maintains routine and ad hoc reports and system queries that are reliable, accurate, and cross-matched with other data sources for consistency and clarity.
Analyzes trends and patterns in data and brings meaning to the data with narrative and observations.
Summarizes key findings and insights for reports and presentations to stakeholders.
Uses business applications (PeopleSoft, Workforce Software) and statistical/analytical tools to develop interactive presentations and data visualizations.
Metrics and Benchmarking
Assists stakeholders with tracking and interpreting key employment metrics.
Builds and maintains dashboards to advise on existing employment data and opportunities for improvement.
Conducts regular reviews of industry practices and adjusts internal processes accordingly.
Performs data benchmarking with peer institutions.
Promoting a Data-Driven Culture
Functions as the subject matter expert and data steward for HR-related data and represents HR on associated committees and governing groups.
Educates HR and external staff on how to utilize data to inform strategy and decisions.
Develops and maintains standards and best practices for data, including reporting methodology and request intake.
Provides input on data policies, definitions, security, and access.
Development
Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex statistical analysis.
Determines data structure for local datasets.
Creates quality assurance process to ensure the overall quality and continual improvement of HR analytics.
Performance
Develops and documents standards for data quality and regulatory compliance pertaining to reporting.
Ensures quality and compliance by reviewing reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
4 years functional data analysis or other relevant experience required.
Experience in a higher education institution or other non-profit organization.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Advanced knowledge of database design, SQL, and PL/SQL.
Experience with data warehouses, enterprise systems, and a variety of reporting, statistical and analytical tools, such as Business Intelligence platforms, Tableau software, and Google Analytics.
Demonstrated statistical and quantitative skills. Ability to quickly analyze and integrate information from relevant and sometimes disparate sources.
Exceptional attention to detail and project management skills.
Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams(s) and encourage cooperation from divergent stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience in a higher education institution.
Advanced experience with a Human Resources enterprise system, or equivalent exposure to employment or recruiting data.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $105,000-$115,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
