The Risk Analyst II position will work in the Risk Division of the Human Resources department and report to the Risk Manager/Safety Officer.
The ideal candidate will be able to balance productive work along with excellent customer service, in a collaborative team setting and have a strong working knowledge of California laws and regulations relative to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and workers’ compensation claims administration. This position will establish a culture that seeks to achieve the objectives of the Leave of Absences (LOA) and Return to Work (RTW) processes through active and ongoing communication with the employee, department, payroll, and our third-party claims administrator. This position will be responsible for Interactive Meetings, the Return to Work Program, Industrial Disability Retirements, monitoring the activities of the City’s workers’ compensation claims administrator, including approval of compensability decisions and escalation of settlement authority requests.
Education/Experience:
Risk Analyst II: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, public administration, or a closely related field; AND one (1) year experience adjusting and/or processing claims, administering a comprehensive safety program, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of work experience at a level equivalent to a Risk Analyst I is required. Additional qualifying experience as outlined above may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.
For positions assigned to Worker's Compensation:
Must obtain the Self-Insurance Administrator's certification within one (1) year of appointment.
For positions assigned to manage the City insurance program:
Possession of a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Designation (CPCU) is highly desirable.
For positions assigned to Risk Management:
Possession of an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license in order to work at remote user sites.
