Position Description: Under the direction of the Campus Life CFO, the Assistant Director, Human Resources is responsible for all divisional aspects of Human Resources management, ensuring consistent application and compliance with University policies and procedures. They oversee the complete range of staff personnel activity, including merit and promotion actions, leave administration, employee relations, staff development and training programs, HR strategic initiatives, recruitment, job descriptions, benefits, absence management, and performance management programs. The Assistant Director is responsible for compliance with campus, local, state and UC policies and practices, as well as adherence to labor contracts representing all department employees and their related benefits. This role will work to build a service oriented Human Resources structure within a Student Affairs Divisional Business Center utilizing existing resources and providing guidance and support to all client departments in the division and organization They will serve as a Subject Matter Expert/resource for the Student Affairs Division, although the primary clients are the departments under the division of Campus Life.
Responsibilities also include: providing resources for departmental managers on employee benefits and retirement options; the development and delivery of HR related trainings for managers/supervisors; overseeing the execution of procedures and transactions related to personnel/payroll, orienting employees and supervisors; and interpreting both departmental and campus wide policies, procedures and guidelines for managers, supervisors and staff. Development of new processes and policies, and independent problem-solving are required. The Assistant Director is the primary representative of the division on personnel issues, implementation requirements, and objectives regarding classification of positions, diversity, absence management/leaves, grievances, employee development, conflict resolution, and HR systems. The Assistant Director, Human Resources works closely with the Campus Life CFO, department Directors and Student Affairs to create a workplace that fosters teamwork and supports the continued excellence of the division.
Special Instructions: The target salary range for this position is between the posted minimum and $8,750 monthly. This position also provides full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Pay at the top of the pay range is commensurate with prior experience.
