POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist will provide professional support of human resources operations across all employee types including faculty and administrative employees. This includes interpretation of University HR policies, providing consultation and advice on HR related issues, and implementing HR strategies and plans within the department. This position will supervise human resources staff and be responsible for assuring that the unit???s personnel actions and activities are in compliance with Federal, State, and University policies and support the University???s equal opportunity and diversity goals.
In addition to the CUNY Title overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Administer processing of all employment actions related to various employee classifications, including but not limited to new hire, appointment/reappointment and separation process.
Oversight and support and of employee background and credentials checking and assure employee onboarding activities are conducted in a timely manner.
Create reports and analysis for the department regarding HR trends and metrics utilizing internal reporting tools.
Track and analyze key metrics to monitor employee satisfaction and continuously improve HR service delivery to internal staff.
Recommend, plan and implement human resources policies, procedures and best practices for the department.
Assure that HR transactions are processed in a timely and accurate manner in the department with attention to data integrity.
Provide supervision and oversight of assigned HR staff including hiring, coaching, training and managing performance.
Assist the AVP for Administration and the Human Resources Director in the implementation and maintenance of University and College initiatives.
Recommend new processes that will create higher efficiencies in the office.
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in Higher Education Human Resources.
SHRM Certified Professional in Human Resources (SHRM-CP) or other applicable professional certification.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access) Outlook, PeopleSoft or other Human Resources Information System.
A strong work ethic and ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard employee information.
Ability to interact and work collaboratively on a team in assisting diverse faculty and staff members.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task with multiple priorities and deadlines.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers various Human Resources functions and programs for one or more employee group(s) exercising discretion and independent judgment.
Oversees two or more human resources functions for an employee group, such as, but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, employee relations, appointment administration, compensation, human resource information systems (HRIS), training and development, benefits, and/or administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
Ensures human resources functions, programs, and actions are in compliance with university rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and college policies and procedures.
Interprets and provides professional counsel and advice to employees and managers on HR programs and policies, CUNY rules, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. Researches and resolves multifaceted human resources issues.
Recommends new approaches, best practices, policies, and systems to improve office efficiency and services provided.
Performs related duties as assigned.
