Roxbury Community College is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Human Resources (HR) Payroll Assistant who is primarily responsible for the accuracy of payroll for full-time, part-time, work-study, and adjunct faculty employees. This includes data entry, verifying data entering by employee in Self Service Time and Attendance (SSTA), working with the Payroll Manager and the Comptroller's Office to accurately calculate and implement annual salary increases for faculty and professional staff according to the collective bargaining agreements, and provide exceptional customer service. The HR/Payroll Assistant will also be responsible for some HR activities in the office. This includes providing lead oversight and coordination for annual celebratory events, such as Service Recognition Awards, Holiday Celebration and new events to be determined. It also includes acting as backup for Human Resources support services as needed. This position will be assigned other duties as requested by the Payroll Manager and the Executive Director of HR. The position has extensive contact with employees, Human Resources, Finance, and Departmental Supervisors and Managers. The HR/Payroll Assistant must establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others by communicating effectively, succinctly and tactfully. The position will also have contact with other State Agencies, State Departments, and outside benefits vendors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Enter/update data in the state payroll system (HR/CMS) including tax withholdings, benefits deductions, direct deposit, and other information as needed work with Payroll Manager to process and check payroll information for promotions, transfers, terminations, and new hires.
Enter accounting information into Labor Cost Management (LCM) to ensure the correct accounts are charged.
Verify accuracy of payroll using reports through HC/CMS, the Warehouse, and Mobius report viewer.
Enter timesheets and other payments such as deliverable-based payment, and retroactive payments into HR/CMS, as needed.
Calculate and request manual checks to correct payroll errors.
Initiate Stop Payment on checks as needed.
Complete unemployment, social security, and employment verifications.
Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding various payroll matters including training them on the use of SSTA.
Serves as the primary payroll contact in the absence of the Payroll Manager.
Maintain all active and terminated employee payroll files.
Work closely with all departments to ensure accuracy of payroll information.
Work with Payroll Manager to process and reconcile adjunct faculty payrolls each semester.
Prepare reports as requested
Assist in Human Resource functions as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or equivalent experience in related fields.
At least two (2) years of payroll or accounting experience.
Proficient in Excel and Knowledge of Access software programs.
Knowledge of Federal and Massachusetts State laws, rules and regulations governing payroll.
Knowledge of the practices and principles of payroll, including terminology.
Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of payroll data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to meet critical deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulas to solve payroll problems.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of HR/CMS, Peoplesoft or other payroll software.
Experience interpreting and understanding complex collective bargaining agreements/union contracts
Bilingual fluency - English/Spanish.
Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.

Public Transportation is available to the College via the MBTA Orange Line Roxbury Crossing Station which is an eight-minute walk to the campus.
Location: Roxbury campus. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm
