Our 250+ Facilities department employees are on-site maintaining the wonderful buildings and grounds of all four campuses of George Mason University. To keep pace with the needs of this dynamic group, the HR team is expanding.
Reporting directly to the Facilities HR Director, we want a human resources contributor with junior level generalist experience to be part of a 3-person on-site HR team.
Responsibilities:
Here's what the HR Specialist job looks like:
Develop, administer, and coordinate departmental training programs and special sessions, collaborating with Central HR where necessary;
Under the direction of the Facilities HR Director, supports Classification and Compensation efforts for all Facilities employees;
Manage a departmental succession planning program which includes individual development and training plans;
Work closely with supervisors and department heads on goal setting and monitoring for employees.
Oversee the annual evaluation process of department administrative faculty, and classified staff, providing guidance to departments as needed; and
Other related human resources functions, depending on operational needs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience;
Knowledge of HR principles and practices;
Demonstrated skill in providing project support;
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, including Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and tailor communication based on the audience;
Ability to exercise sound judgment and to make reasonable, logical, and defensible decisions; and
Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
English / Spanish bilingual skills (Inglés español habilidades bilingües)highly preferred;and
Knowledge of higher education software systems such as Banner.
