Reporting to the Director of Human Resources Operations in the College of Dental Medicine (CDM), the HR Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day human resources and faculty affairs operations. Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Employee Relations: 60%
Build and foster trust-based, collaborative relationships with Service Corp leadership, CDM leadership, central labor relations and union colleagues by proactively communicating, providing prompt issue resolution, grievance oversight while ensuring fair and equitable treatment by balancing business, employee, and legal needs.
Investigates all CDM faculty and clinical complaints regarding sexual harassment and other workplace issues.
Advise all management staff on employee and union labor decision making and processes.
Providing summary analysis to Director in preparation for and defending labor arbitrations litigation and grievances.
Training and coaching managers, providing guidance and support in relation to next steps, grievance resolution, disciplinary action and termination.
Facilitate conflict resolution strategies and lead communication and counselling sessions to faculty and staff.
Attends all labor management committee meetings.
Assist in process and creation of written warnings and performance improvement plans.
Assist in the development, implementation, and communication of policies, procedures, facilitate trainings and activities and act as the subject matter expert on a broad range of ER policies and practices.
Effectively and accurately maintain confidential ER data in Microsoft Teams.
Facilitate communication and updates with union contract negotiations.
Provide bi-weekly updates on all ER cases/complaints to HR Director.
Manage day-to-day operational transactions
Oversee leave management for faculty and staff
Oversee the planning, implementation and resource development for staff training;
Provide specialized training for managers and prospective managers;
Engagement labor workshops, team building, and professional development initiatives involving faculty and employees
Collaborates with HR Director with developing new policies, initiatives, CDM manuals, etc.
Additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor???s degree or equivalent in education and years of experience plus 4 years of related experience
Strong employee relations experience, including experience with formal charges/litigation situations.
Demonstrated high level of confidentiality and discretion. Strong organizational, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills required.
Employee & labor relations experience preferred
Experience working within a union environment.
Excellent computer skills recommended.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, set priorities, meet deadlines, take initiative and be a skilled problem solver.
