Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, manage a variety of human resources functions for the school. Manage the recruiting, and appointment process for adjunct, visiting faculty, graduate students, research, student and casual employees. Interpret procedures to meet University, federal and state employment laws guidelines, and apply University human resources policies and the terms of collective bargaining agreements as applicable. Collaborate with the Director of HR to resolve complex employee relations and performance problems; counsel department supervisors and employees on preventing and resolving workplace issues. Deliver and coordinate training sessions; manage new hire orientations; and recruit staff. Coordinate processing of Annual Merit Increases (AMI) and bonus submissions for all employees (faculty, research, administrators, and staff). Oversee processing of human resources actions.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business or a related field.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Human Resources Management or related area
Required Experience: 3+ years relevant human resource experience with some experience in professional-level or specialist capacity or and equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include intermediate knowledge of compensation administration, recruitment, and/or employee relations.
Preferred Experience: Relevant professional-level experience as a human resources generalist in an academic environment. Also, experience in a union environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent organizational, interviewing, problem solving, and negotiating skills. Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, legislation, and procedures. Ability to supervise work processes and staff. Ability to interpret and effectively communicate policies and procedures and resolve problems for a diverse population. Knowledge of standard office software. Ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures, to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, and to facilitate decision making. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Human Resources certification (SHRM or other accredited certificate program). Working knowledge of HRIS/ HRMS systems.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $105,000.
