In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.
*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.
Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster five months after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two months after the J&J vaccine.
Job Description
Do you love working in a dynamic environment and are you passionate about being part of a team dedicated to supporting MSK's mission? This is the perfect role for you! We have an exciting opportunity for an attorney specializing in employment and immigration related matters to join our legal team.
Our team includes attorneys spanning multiple legal practices tasked with providing various services for MSK. Through our combined expertise and experience, we assist staff across all departments by facilitating agreements and projects that further the mission of MSK. Our goal is to help our clients, reach and exceed their goals by working collaboratively to provide answers and assistance on any legal inquiry.
You Will:
- Provide legal, policy, and strategic guidance to a diverse client base regarding business immigration, employment relations, and policy guidance
- Ensure completion, submission, and follow up on all nonimmigrant visa and permanent residence petitions according to U.S. immigration guidelines and MSK standards
- Serve as ARO and DSO for MSK's J-1 Exchange Visitor Program and F-1 visas.
- Ensure compliance with Department of State regulations and MSK standards
- Provide advice and counsel for employee relations-related matters, advising HR partners throughout the lifecycle of employee events
- Research, strategize, draft and respond to administrative agency charges and legal correspondence
- Assist with the interpretation, development, drafting, and updating of institutional HR policies to comply with legal requirements and interpretive changes.
- Provide guidance to HR partners regarding compliance with current and updated policies
You Are:
- Skilled at drafting legal documents, issue spotting, identification of trends, legal research and analysis, risk management, and client interactions.
- Detail focused, organized, efficient, and consistently achieving positive results, providing outstanding client service, even under challenging circumstances.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- A Collaborator, able to work on a team or independently to get the job done.
- Adept at balancing multiple assignments simultaneously and have a project management mindset
- Able to, and enjoy, cultivating positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and leaders at every level, while maintaining an independent and objective perspective.
- Capable of providing candid, sound, clear, and direct legal advice (in both verbal and written forms) that is pragmatic while recognizing the broader consequences of the legal advice.
You Have:
- A Juris Doctor degree and admission to the New York State Bar
- 4-7 years of legal experience
- Experience handling business immigration and employment law matters
- Strong computer and software proficiency
