The Human Resources Director leads the Human Resources (HR) department within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at UW-Madison. DoIT is a large and complex organization providing information technology services to UW-Madison, UW System and other agencies. DoIT employs approximately 800 people and operates with a budget of $105 million.

The DoIT HR Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, strategic initiatives, and activities of the DoIT HR department. They will ensure compliance with, and implementation of, the organization's mission and talent strategy. This individual will partner with various internal and external campus partners on topics including, but not limited to, HR operations and campus initiatives; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; recruitment; performance and talent management; diversity, equity, and inclusion; employee engagement, recognition, and workplace culture; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
The DoIT Human Resources team provides a wide variety of services - talent management, recruitment, policy and procedure interpretation, payroll, benefits and much more. The HR team is made up of nine people focusing on recruitment, workplace climate, workforce relations, professional development, and operations. With an emphasis on customer service and DoIT's values, the HR team offers optimal and innovative solutions within the UW-Madison framework.
The Director of DoIT Human Resources reports directly to the Vice Provost for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer and serves as part of the executive leadership team, assisting in all aspects of DoIT executive strategy and operations work.
Plans, directs and manages strategic planning initiatives for multiple human resources (HR) functions such as recruitment, employment relations, performance management, compensation and classification, and/or payroll and benefits. Develops recommends, and implements approved policies and procedures and ensures strategy alignment. Develops and manages the division's human resources budget.

5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
15% Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures to comply with laws, regulations, institutional policies, and divisional objectives
15% Develops resolution strategies regarding HR matters such as workforce performance and competency gaps, organizational structures, and compensation, and develops training plans and mitigation strategies as needed
5% Oversees HR activities such as recruitment, pay administration programs, new hire orientations, employee benefits, and health and safety plans through managerial HR staff
20% Serves as an advisor and liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing organization information and interpretation of human resources policies and procedures and represents the interests of the division
10% Serves on various university committees and projects representing the division and working with a wide range of constituencies
5% Serves as sponsor and liaison for division equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives
5% Leads strategic learning and development initiatives and develops framework for professional development in alignment with strategic efforts

Preferred Qualifications: -Multiple years of successful, and increasingly responsible experience in human resources, with demonstrated experience in managing professional staff. -Experience working through organizational change, strengthening/expanding business relationships, and developing/delivering creative solutions. -Demonstrated success in building rapport quickly, building a cohesive team, and the ability to see multiple perspectives. -Obtained professional HR certifications (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)

The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Candidate may, on occasion, be required to report to campus due to operational needs for meetings, trainings, or other activities.
