Position SummaryThe mission of the Global Campus (GC) at San Diego State University is to provide self-support education and training to enhance careers and transform lives and organizations. GC serves as a principal University liaison with the greater San Diego community and provides a wide variety of traditional and nontraditional, credit and noncredit educational experiences designed to fit the lifestyle and expectations of working adults and other lifelong learners. In addition, GC provides a range of academic and special programs for individuals and groups at various times, in myriad locations, and via different modalities throughout the year.
The Organizational Effectiveness Specialist and Human Resource Specialist will report directly to the Dean of SDSU Global Campus. The incumbent will play a central role in building a world class Professional and Continuing Education organization by helping to attract top talent, ensure employee engagement and development, and retain exceptional employees in support of the unit's strategic priorities. This person will serve as the primary contact and liaison with SDSU and SDSURF Divisions of Human Resources, providing expertise and guidance with regard to human resources, new hire orientation, and on-going employee training and development to ensure staff members are prepared and supported to perform at the highest level while following the policies and procedures specific to SDSU Global Campus as well as SDSU, the CSU, and other regulatory agencies.
The successful candidate will possess strong and well-developed oral and written communication skills along with exceptional interpersonal skills. They will have a high level of interest in and commitment to higher education, especially with nontraditional students. They will have proven ability to work across a complex organization and interact with partners from different units and levels within a complex, dynamic, and flexible environment. They will have an exceptional ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and matters with discretion and within a strong ethical framework. They will require the ability to use independent judgment and manage and impart information to a variety of individuals. They will lead business innovation and process improvement efforts, often developing new strategic approaches and solutions. They will address problems from a broad interactive perspective using advanced research and analytical skills to conceive new solutions. They will serve as a key contact and expert for a highly complex program, specialty, and/or organizational unit. The successful candidate will maintain high-level and diverse contacts within the university system and with outside entities and agencies.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and ExperienceEntry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Minimum of four years of Human Resources experience
- Experience with employment law
- Experience working in collective bargaining environment
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience with Oracle, PeopleSoft, ICIMS
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP certification
Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $7917 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,908 - $11,481 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine PolicyIn accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.
Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated. The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
