The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) is a D.C.-based trade association that supports the entire value chain for the $432 billion plastics industry including nearly one million workers in the United States.
PLASTICS is looking for a Senior Director of Human Resources.
Reporting to the CEO the Senior Director, Human Resources serves as an advisor on human capital matters to Plastics Industry Association Executive Team. The HCD provides leadership to the organization in the development and implementation of human capital strategies to ensure alignment with PLASTICS business objectives and is responsible for the overall management of the Human Resources programs. This position models and supports an emphasis on problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement with a proven track record of human resource program development and implementation.
The Senior Director, HR has responsibility for leading and coordinating the HR function including employee relations, compensation, benefit administration, professional development, performance management, on-boarding, policy implementation, recruitment and employment law compliance for a workforce encompassing approximately 50 – 60 employees. This person will work closely and collaboratively on with the CFO and Controller on business planning, compensation planning, and payroll for the organization. The individual will also work closely with PLASTIC’s PEO, Insperity on appropriate issue in close coordination with the controller and outside counsel as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent and drive the CEO’s initiatives and agenda to create a top notch highly functioning goal oriented association.
- Partner with the CEO and top leadership to implement and lead a talent management and succession planning strategy including the development of current and next-generation of leaders.
- Provide effective leadership by being actively involved in programs and services related to Human Resources.
- Maintain knowledge of human captial trends, human resources best practices, and employment legislation to ensure the organization's compliance.
- Partners with leaders within PLASTICS to research and introduce best practices and new technologies for additional service offerings and improvements to HR practices.
- Lead initiatives to brand PLASTICS as “Best Places to Work” company.
- Responsible for developing and executing a new employee on-boarding program that effectively orients individuals into PLASTICS and their respective departments.
- Responsible for evaluating the annual performance review appraisal process in partnership with the Executive Team to ensure the most effective system is in place to support employees’ growth for future success.
- Manage the relationship between PLASTICS and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) in close coordination with the Controller.
- Coordinate closely with the Finance team on staff organization, compensation, and business planning related to HR.
- Work effectively, professionally and tactfully with PLASTICS workforce, team leaders, senior staff, association members, vendors, customers, and other stake holders.
Qualifications
- A Bachelors’ degree or higher at least of ten (10) years of comprehensive human resources management experience including supervision of human resource professionals.

- Previous experience with managing the Professional Employer Organization Relationship
- Experience with the institution of policies and procedures where they did not exist previously
- Specific experience leading the full scope of human resources disciplines is preferred.
- Experience at a trade association is helpful and desirable.
- Certification as HRI SPHR or SHRM - CP highly desired.
