Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks an organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountant and HR Coordinator to work in the Business Office with the Director of Finance and Operations and Accounting Associate. This is an immediate opening.
The Staff Accountant and HR Coordinator is an integral and critical part of the Business Office at Tandem Friends School. This position is responsible for primary accounting and finance responsibilities, ensuring timely tuition and incidental expense billing, and processing of payroll along with coordinating staff benefits and other aspects of human resources. We seek an individual who shares our strong enthusiasm for the School and willingness to support its mission, its talented faculty and staff, and its diverse community of students and families. This role requires a responsive, action-oriented person who can operate both independently and as a vital team member within a fast-paced environment. This is a non-exempt position, which may require overtime and some weekends.
Primary accounting and finance responsibilities include daily bookkeeping and accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliations in accordance with GAAP. Primary human resource and benefits responsibilities include payroll processing, benefits administration, and maintenance of employee records. The Staff Accountant and HR Coordinator reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.

Ability to multitask and keep calm under pressure
Bachelor’s degree or credits towards achieving this level of education
Non-profit experience in finance, accounting and/or human resources work desired, preferably at a school
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; strong experience with Excel
Knowledge of Quickbooks and FACTS tuition management a plus
