Recruit qualified candidates for non-exempt and exempt positions typically up to mid-level management: consult with supervisors to define job requirements and successful employee profiles by which to evaluate candidates' suitability for positions. Assist supervisors with creating or modifying positions, typically with specific accountability for non-exempt and exempt positions up to mid-level management. Interview supervisors and employees to document or identify changes in responsibilities. Advise supervisors and employees on routine to moderately complex employee relations matters in an effort to contain and minimize work place disruptions and problems; Advise supervisors on ways to effectively manage employee relations and on the constructive discipline process. Supervise full-time office support and part-time student employees. Implement and assist Senior Director with formulating initiatives for staff development program; assess departmental training needs and employees' skills and make recommendations. Plan, schedule, and conduct workshops. Assist with developing training materials.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Human Resources Management or related area.
Required Experience: At least 3 years' relevant human resource experience with some experience in professional-level or specialist capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include intermediate knowledge of compensation administration, recruitment, and/or employee relations.
Preferred Experience: Relevant professional-level experience as a human resources generalist in an academic environment. Experience in a union environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent organizational, interviewing, problem solving, and negotiating skills. Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, legislation, and procedures. Ability to supervise work processes and staff. Ability to interpret and effectively communicate policies and procedures and resolve problems for a diverse population. Knowledge of standard office software.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Human Resources certification (SHRM or other accredited certificate program).
