Summary
Northwestern University seeks an outstanding leader to serve as the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, Support and Services (AVP). Reporting to the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer, the AVP for HR Support and Services will oversee Compensation, HR Operations, Payroll, Tax, and Reporting & Analytics. Leading approximately 40 human resource professionals, the AVP will foster strategic collaborations and build partnerships that drive organizational effectiveness, leverage technology and data analytics, and ensure efficient processes to provide superior service in support of the University’s mission and vision.
Primary responsibilities:
- Fosters a “One HR” culture by working across HR to eliminate silos and enhance the delivery of services to the University community.
- Provides strategic leadership in the areas of compensation, HR operations, payroll, tax and reporting and analytics to ensure transparent, accurate and timely responses to meet all customer needs.
- Ensures accurate payroll processes and compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Leads organizational excellence activities through the use of data analytics and effective project management that supports the entire HR function.
- Partners with the Senior Director of HR Communications and Strategy to develop clear, concise communications related to operational processes and procedures.
- Provides oversight of Compensation ensuring Northwestern has a modern, competitive structure that is current with the market. Leads creation of efficient and transparent compensation administration processes and education to ensure the application of sound principals and equity across the organization.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with NU IT and collaborates on the design and implementation of various HR related systems, platforms, and technologies that support HR related activities.
- Creates and monitors HR analytical metrics and develops strategies for improvement of HR processes and overall operations.
- Ensures maintenance of complete and accurate employee records.
- Under the direction of the Vice President and CHRO, leads assigned HR advisory committees to gather input from various constituencies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or other related field is required. Master’s degree or relevant certification preferred. • Five years of senior leadership level experience preferred.
- Higher education or healthcare (especially academic medicine) experience is highly desirable; and experience working in a shared services environment is preferred. • Experience developing key partnerships across a variety of stakeholders to gain buy-in on initiatives. • Experience in communicating with various stakeholders and presenting to large groups in various forums.
- Excellent leadership with a track record of developing and maintaining high performing teams.
- Experience implementing change in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated success leading in a diverse environment.
The AVP for HR Support and Services will need to demonstrate:
