Duties:
The Office of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion (HRDI) at SUNY New Paltz seeks an innovative, creative and engaged colleague to join our team as the next Associate Director. This is an opportunity to join a unique integrated model of Human Resources where all aspects of our services and practices are beyond transactional and help to support institutional culture and goals of diversity, equity and inclusion. Successful candidates will have experience in labor relations, interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements, employment related investigations and performance management. The primary role of this position is to serve as labor relations designee for Civil Service Employee Association (CSEA), Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU), Public Employee Federation (PEF), and NYS Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) and Police Benevolent Association of New York State (PBA) bargaining units. In this capacity, the Associate director would be the first point of contact for campus representatives of the respective bargaining units and serve as liaison to the Civil Service Commission and relevant SUNY offices. Reporting to the Director of Unclassified Service, this position would also support projects that include consultation for reorganization and reclassification, compensation, process design and improvement. The successful candidate will form part of the senior management team of the department and can expect to provide service to the institution through committee work and campus initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
- Part of a two-person team that supports employee and labor relations for union represented employees within this portfolio including but not limited to coaching/counseling process, investigations, responding to grievances, and administration of the collective bargaining agreements.
- Within a model that partners with Benefits and Payroll, this position will review and provide consultation on employee leaves.
- Interprets and applies appropriate civil service law and/or bargaining unit provisions, provides counsel and recommendations and responds to inquiries from all levels of the institution, providing clear communication regarding policies and practices.
- Serves as the point of coordination for departments seeking support to review work, scope, position classification or reclassification and provide consultation and recommendations as appropriate.
- Assesses practices of the area in order to understand opportunities, challenges and effectiveness and to identify points of innovation and improvement of the work.
- Remain current with SUNY, State and Federal employment laws and best practices in Human Resources through professional development, conferences, and literature.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- At least four years of HR experience
- Experience with collective bargaining environment and labor relations
- Understanding of equity and inclusion in the practice of HR
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated competence with technology including recruitment software, relational databases and the full office suite of Microsoft products.
Preferred:
- Experience in higher education or public sector is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in a business or human resource related field
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with data and data analysis
