The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Office of Human Resources is looking for a mission-driven and client-focused HR professional who will regularly collaborate with colleagues across CVM, and university stakeholders, to implement operational best practices and develop resources and tools to streamline services and ensure a high level of value-added customer service. The CVM Office of Human Resources serves as a strategic partner to the CVM leadership team and a strong advocate for dedicated staff and faculty. With a dynamic employee base to support, the HR team continuously evolving its approach to ensure they are following the latest and most innovative HR best practices.
What you will do:
As an integral team member of the HR team that provides a wide range of guidance and assistance to the academic and non-academic departments across CVM, you will:
* Maintain the full spectrum of academic and non-academic HR activity in the CVM and serve as the first point of HR contact for staff and faculty.
* Partner with departmental and academic leaders to aid various aspects of HR services, including recruitment and hiring, leave administration, transaction processing, and proactive tracking of appointments and promotions.
* Provide thoughtful and timely guidance on HR processes and policies, partnering with College and University subject matter experts.
* Handle delicate and confidential matters with appropriate discretion and judgment.
* Continuously contribute to developing a high-functioning workgroup by contributing and maintaining a positive work environment that is emblematic of our team and core values.
* Consistently provide creative resolution to difficulties using technology and HR reporting tools/dashboards.
* Facilitate connections for our community to promote belonging and success in the CVM Community.
* We support each other, which means sometimes we'll need you to take initiative to share HR Office coverage and be backup to our payroll and student employment processes, and other duties as needed.

This position is primarily on-campus (at least 4 days) with some possible remote work, to be mutually determined with your supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
* An Associate's Degree with 4 to 6 years related experience in human resources or related areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
To be successful, you will need:
* Immense curiosity for learning the employee lifecycle in a complex and multifaceted work environment and contributing to building and improving efficient HR practices.
* Proven propensity to deliver high-quality customer service involving a proactive approach as well as anticipating the needs of the client, requiring proactive follow-through and initiative and maintaining ethical workplace practices.
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work proactively, use sound judgment, and contribute to developing a highly productive, inclusive, team-oriented work environment, along with escalating difficult circumstances to the HR team.
* Welcome open feedback with supervisor, HR team and clients and ability to accept personal accountability.
* Demonstrated experience in communicating information and ideas clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally.
* Strong relational skills and the aptitude to build and maintain relationships with varied audiences at all levels of an extremely complex organization.
* Experience handling multiple competing timelines, assignments, and projects in a proactive, solution-oriented manner while setting priorities appropriately and paying close attention to details, accuracy and timelines.
* Demonstrated aptitude for using and learning office productivity software (e.g., MS Office), including advanced platforms to develop products to meet business needs.
If you have all those things, great! Here are some preferred qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in ILR/HR or related field with 2-4 years of related experience.
* Solid knowledge and application of HR "body of knowledge" (SHRM) and all applicable HR laws at the local, State, and Federal levels. HR Certifications are preferred.
* Familiarity with Cornell's human resource and payroll policies and software (Workday)
