POSITION DETAILS
Baruch College is seeking dynamic Human Resources professionals who are committed to providing exceptional customer service and creating positive work experiences for our employees. This position reports to the Client Services and Benefits Manager. The successful candidates will provide human resources guidance and assistance to managers, supervisors, employees, and applicants in the areas of: benefits, leave and retirement administration.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Manages the day-to-day operations in the HR/Benefits area.
- Facilitates and conducts benefit orientation and programs including, but not limited to the following: Adjunct health insurance, unemployment insurance queries and applications, Family Medical Leave applications, and Paid Parental Leave applications and workers compensation applications.
- Maintains an in-depth understanding of CUNY rules and regulations, relevant laws and guidelines, collective bargaining agreements, and College policies, and applies these to areas of responsibility.
- Fosters effective working relationships with the management team and employees of assigned areas.
- Advises and makes recommendations to management on personnel issues related to benefits, leaves, retirements, and records management. Recommends workflow improvements.
- Compiles, maintains and interprets statistical data, develops manuals, guides, audio-visual aids or other materials, composes correspondence, reports and/or proposals.
- Advises managers and employees on deadlines, rules, regulations or related information.
- Organizes and prepares content for monthly HR Newsletter and updates HR Website and assists with special projects.
- Develops and maintains tools to track and confirm new employees benefit enrollment and vesting cycle; and monitor, employee and employer, pension contributions, to ensure accurate processing and completion of these transactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Other Qualifications:
Background in benefits management and pensions are plus. Individuals must be self-starter, multi-tasker, independent and team contributor/supporter with excellent leadership. The successful candidates will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. This includes being highly detail oriented and able to succeed under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Finally, and foremost, must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Organizes and provides employee benefits programs for faculty and staff and coordinates benefits matters on behalf of a College or Unit.
- Counsels and assists staff on employee benefits matters
- Designs, creates, and conducts workshops and employee meetings related to benefits and benefits changes, including the annual open enrollment period
- Administers College benefits, providing information to carriers, retirement systems, welfare funds, and others as needed, managing data accuracy and completeness
- May coordinate complex programs, such as worker's compensation or leaves of absence
- Compiles data, monitors benefits statistics, prepares required and ad hoc reports, and conducts routine periodic audits of data entry for the College, CUNY Central, and outside parties as needed
- Represents the College at University benefits related meetings
- Develops and maintains employee benefits manuals, newsletter, policy descriptions, and other needed materials; maintains benefits-related information on College web site
- Maintains accurate, confidential employee records
- Performs related duties as assigned.
