The Academic HR Analyst 3 is a seasoned intermediate professional who administers all phases of department-level academic recruitment, appointment, and advancement for senate faculty, lecturers, specialists, visitors, and librarians in the College of Environmental Design, which consists of 60 faculty, 48 staff, and over 1000 undergraduate and graduate students in three academic departments and three interdisciplinary degree programs within the College. Provides confidential academic personnel support and guidance for Department Chairs and Department Managers in the college.

Responsibilities
45% Facilitates/manages the academic review processes, identifying issues relating to policy and compensation. Prepares and analyzes faculty, librarian, merit, endowed chair, and promotion cases from assigned academic departments and makes recommendations to faculty and department chair, as appropriate. Verifies the accuracy of the materials/data provided for the case. Performs final edits on or drafts of departmental recommendation letters as needed.
20% Administers all phases of the faculty recruitment process. Coordinates the academic search process, including placement of ads, drafting search plans. Prepares the resulting appointment case, including the Affirmative Action Report.
20% Making entries into UPath regarding all academic hiring, merit, promotion, leaves, administrative appointment, recruitment allowances, and summer research appointment transactions. Coordinate any necessary payroll transactions (e.g., late pay, and positive time payments) with payroll personnel.
Running reports on a monthly basis to catch any potential issues before the month's end.
Coordinate other tasks involving academic personnel, which may include APM 025 reporting, recruiting reporting, reporting regarding visiting appointees, sabbatical requests, sabbatical reporting, etc.
10% Provides strategic advice and counsel to department chairs or managers by analyzing and interpreting system-wide and campus policies, collective bargaining agreements, academic personnel procedures, and practices. Consult with the Dean's Office and the Academic Personnel Office on various issues and processes. May recommend strategies for addressing sensitive situations or requesting exceptions to policy based on in-depth research and consultation.
Counsels Senate and non/Senate faculty and other academic staff concerning moderate to complex or particularly sensitive work- or career-related problems.
5% Advise faculty, departmental chairs, and departmental administrative managers with specialists, visiting professors, and other non-senate appointment preparations. (May provide advice regarding appropriate title, appointment percentage, salary setting while taking into consideration payroll deadlines, benefits implications, and visa requirements.)
Required Qualifications
- Requires in-depth knowledge of and ability to apply/interpret campus and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
- Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address complex issues and present nuanced analyses.
- Thorough knowledge of systemwide and organization policies, union contracts, procedures and practices that govern academic HR administration.
- Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration.
- Ability to analyze complex management issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior officials and make critical decisions regarding personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
