Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:
Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School seeks an outstanding candidate for the position of Human Resources Manager. The role of the Human Resources Manager is integral to the support of school faculty, administration and staff. Primary responsibilities include benefit administration, payroll, support for the recruiting and hiring process, regulatory compliance and reporting, and employee relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage benefits administration (health, dental, vision, 403(b), LTD/STD, Life/AD&D, COBRA, etc.), including daily employee benefits management, employee & employer contributions and coordination with payroll; annual benefit renewals and claims resolution.
- Manage the semi-monthly payroll process (through HRIS), create the semi-monthly payroll, and coordinate all year-end payroll activities.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, ERISA, etc.
- Support the recruiting lifecycle, including coordinating position advertisements, providing support for the Hiring Manager as requested, and preparing new hire information packets.
- Create and manage processes for the life-cycle of an employee (onboarding/new-employee orientations; monitor career-path program, exit interviews, etc.).
- Create and manage processes for employee relations counseling.
- Serve as trusted partner and resource to supervisors.
- Manage Worker’s Compensation program (file claims, annual audit, follow-up, etc.).
- Maintain personnel records in Human Resource Information System (HRIS), including attendance, vacation days, evaluations, educational documents, etc.
- Create a strong customer service dynamic throughout all operations.
- Manage personnel policies and procedures; preparation and maintenance of employee handbook and policy documents.
- Manage creation and maintenance of job descriptions.

- Support other projects, initiatives or processes as necessary.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR role.
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll and benefit administration experience.
- Independent school experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A working knowledge of HR processes and regulations is essential; experience with FMLA, PTO accrual, Worker’s Compensation and 403b programs desired.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Proficient in MS Office and Google applications, particularly Excel spreadsheets, required.
- A willingness to be a visible presence in all areas of school life required.
- Strong understanding of local and federal employment practices, policies, and laws required.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Experience with HRIS desired.
- Strong experience with employee relations desired.
