Under general supervision the AP/HR Analyst serves as consultant to the AP/HR Manager in the analysis and interpretation of academic personnel policies and procedures. Independently responsible for initiating and processing of departmental academic affairs including appointments, reviews and personnel actions, leaves, visas, separations, layoffs, recruitment, etc for all levels of academic personnel, including researchers, lecturers, Postdoctoral Scholars and Visiting Scholars. Ensures compliance with Academic Affirmative Action requirements; review, assess, and recommend revisions to existing policy and procedures; develop and formulate changes.
In collaboration with campus units and AP/HR Manager, the AP/HR Analyst designs, enhances and maintains academic personnel web systems and personnel databases. Participate in short- and long-term planning relative to academic goals and objectives of the department. Act as departmental liaison with campus Academic Personnel Services, JSOE Dean's Office, and other relevant campus organizations. Provides personnel data and management reports to AP/HR Manager as requested. Provides support on additional projects as necessary.
The incumbent also assists the AP/HR Manager on employment and recruitment issues of students and staff. Administer the payroll/personnel function for academic and staff employees. Benefits coordination, HR-related projects and initiatives; data gathering and other duties as assigned.
Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR. Demonstrated experience working with policies and procedures as they relate to personnel, benefits and payroll administration.
Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies. Ability to establish new procedures for faculty and department operations when necessary, along with skill to perform work according to established protocols.
Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems. With fast and accurate typing and proofreading skills, demonstrated experience using computer software/systems such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Gmail.
Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served. Demonstrated previous experience in the areas of academic affairs and academic personnel. Experience in higher education and an in-depth understanding of the academic process.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management. Excellent reading and comprehensive skills to analyze, understand and interpret complex materials and documents. Excellent writing skills to formulate and present written material in a logical and comprehensive fashion.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, make independent decisions, and to provide consultative services to administrative and academic personnel. Ability to work with little supervision and with initiative, including aptitude to repeat routine tasks without reminders. Proven Ability to manage a large volume of detailed work.

Strong demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize daily operations and projects in order to meet rigid deadlines, ensure smooth workflow and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
