The Leffell School is a cutting-edge K-12 Jewish independent school serving approximately 820 students on two campuses in Westchester County, NY, 30 minutes north of New York City.
The Leffell School is seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Manager. The Human Resources and Payroll Manager will be a hands-on administrator and will improve human resource processes, implement strategies that support best practices, support effective hiring and employee retention, enhance safety and wellness, and serve as an effective representative of the School.
This role requires a detailed understanding of HR information systems, payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, policy creation and administration, employee recruiting, orientation, training, onboarding and off-boarding, and compliance.
The Human Resources and Payroll Manager will be solely responsible for payroll and benefits, as well as compliance with laws relating to human resources. Overtime may be required in this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for transactional Human Resources administration and compliance.
Onboarding of all new employees, including notification of clearance to other departments
Oversee background checks, fingerprinting, sexual harassment and NYS Mandated Reporter compliance requirements
Prepare annual faculty/staff/coach offer letters and stipend letters in Docusign, including setup and rollforward of all Docusign templates.
Maintain secure and confidential human resource related files and records
Prepare and maintain accurate job descriptions and oversee correct FLSA classification of jobs
Serves as administrator of and point of contact for all benefit programs.
Responsible for maintenance of existing benefits programs and implementation of new programs. Trains eligible faculty/staff on available benefits and assists faculty/staff with payroll/benefit questions.
Manage data feeds with benefit providers.
Set up online open enrollment through ADP and ensure employees are properly enrolled in benefits coverage.
Process FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, Unemployment and COBRA paperwork. Ensure that the proper forms are submitted to the appropriate agencies on a timely basis.
Solely responsible for all aspects of payroll
Process bi-weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now to ensure accurate recording and payment of salary, stipends, overtime and pre and post- tax deductions in accordance with deadlines.
Manage employee time and attendance reporting
Process garnishments and withholding orders, ensuring payments are made and documentation is filed on a timely basis.
Maintain payroll database including gathering and auditing timekeeping data and inputting new hires, leave times, terminations, address changes, direct deposits and pay/deduction adjustments in the system.
Ensure that payroll and benefits-related tax filings are complete, accurate and timely filed.
Verify accuracy of federal/state payroll tax reports submitted by payroll provider, including W-2 forms.
Prepare and update salary budget for the CFO and track all changes.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business or other HR-related area.
HRCI or SHRM certification required.
Minimum of eight years of experience in human resource, payroll and benefit administration, including payroll processing experience for 200+ employees including both salaried and hourly employees.
Excellent, grammatically correct, and tactful oral and written communicator.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail, including strong Excel skills.
Extremely organized, able to multi-task effectively and attentive to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
Prior experience working with ADP Workforce now (payroll/benefits provider), Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (accounting system) and Docusign, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
Experience in non-profit or school environment beneficial.
Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, while exercising sound judgement

Knowledge of legislative issues affecting benefits and compensation.
