Oversees and administers the human resource functions for assigned departments within the Division of Student Life & Engagement (formerly known as Residential & Hospitality Services and Student Affairs & Services), including the Dean of Students Office and the Student Activities and Leadership department; oversees all regular and temporary team member hiring and onboarding; serves as the liaison between MSU HR and departmental administrators regarding human resource policies and procedures; serves as a key team member and partners with others in creating, reviewing and implementing strategic planning initiatives for assigned departments; assists with DEI initiatives in human resources; processes personnel transactions in applicant tracking system and Enterprise Business System (SAP); oversees recruiting of all part-time and regular team members to ensure all departments are appropriately staffed; serves as a resource to assist all team members with HR processes, issues, or concerns; supervises Unit HR Coordinators, who are responsible for the hiring and HR related duties for student and on-call employees within assigned areas; assists with disciplinary actions for team members as needed; attends departmental meetings as HR representative and works on any special projects assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing human resource functions, designing and implementing training programs and human resource/labor relations management and computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of EBS, PeopleAdmin, Cognos, MSU HR Policies, and experience working in a unionized environment; demonstrated ability to effectively lead and serve a diverse team; knowledgeable about inclusive and equitable human resource policies, practices, and procedures; demonstrated ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with team members and university partners; well-informed on inclusive and equitable retention practices and identity-conscious supervision; the ability to be principled and value driven and act with integrity.
