Posting Summary: The Office of Human Resources at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist who will be a part of a customer-focused Client Services Team and will provide direct support to assigned client groups in all matters related to the employee life cycle.
Job Summary/Basic Function: Reporting to the Director, HR Services, the Sr. HR Generalist will be a part of a customer-focused Client Services Team and will provide direct support to assigned client groups in all matters related to the employee life cycle. The Sr. HR Generalist will guide and assist their client groups in implementing effective human resource strategies to support overall organizational objectives. In addition to promoting positive employee relations through design, communication and interpretation of human resources policies and programs, they maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
The Sr. HR Generalist will be a team player, flexible in attitude who will have the ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times and be customer service driven with commitment to exceptional quality.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partner with Director, HR Services on various HR related projects in an effort to improve HR operations and services.
Lead HR projects as necessary, working across multiple client groups.
Serve as the HR Services Team subject matter expert for one HR specialty area, including providing training and support to other team members
Provide counsel, coaching and support on HR fundamentals to management and employees. Coach managers in employee and labor relations, employee engagement and development. Execute key HR initiatives, providing available and responsive internal employee support, and drive HR functional excellence and process improvement
Support communication and administration of Human Resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze data, and make recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, training and experience
A minimum of five years of related experience
Demonstrated experience in employee relations and handling complex employment matters
The candidate must have the following skills:
Solid knowledge base of human resources programs and understanding of applicable laws and regulations
Excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, communication skills, be detail-oriented, self-motivated and capable of working under tight deadlines
Must have strong initiative and sound judgement, must have the ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times and be customer service driven with commitment to exceptional quality
Advanced degree in Human Resources or a related field or PHR/ SPHR.
