The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CSOM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. The mission of the CSOM is 1) to provide access to medical and PA education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.
The CUNY School of Medicine is seeking a Human Resources Generalist. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, the HR Generalist will administer the day-to-day human resources affairs of the School for faculty, staff and affiliate faculty. The Generalist will be responsible for employment, affiliate appointments, employee relations, time and leave, payroll and training. The incumbent will exercise the highest level of confidentiality and discretion.
In addition to the CUNY overview, duties include but are not limited to the following:
Manage HR functions as they relate to recruitment, appointment, reappointment, promotions, tenure, affiliate faculty, etc.
Oversee the appointment and reappointment process for full-time, part-time and affiliate faculty and staff.
Recommend and implement policies and procedures to provide a seamless recruitment, on-boarding and transition for new hires.
Liaison with the Provost's Office, CUNY Central Office and the academic and administrative units of the CSOM and CCNY to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Assist in the development and implementation of multiple HR programs aimed at talent development, retention, culture enhancement, and general best practice solutions
Partner with the main campus??? HR department to resolve employee relations issues and maintain strong personnel relationships
Create innovative communications such as manuals, newsletters and various employee communications.
Compile accurate and well-organized reports. Work with staff to ensure CUNYfirst data is accurate and actions are reported timely and accurately in the Chancellor's University Report.
Supervise HR staff
Conduct training sessions on various HR related topics. Conduct adjunct orientation sessions.
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Higher Education experience preferred.
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work in a high traffic environment.
Highly driven, with an ability to work independently, prioritize workloads and efficiently complete tasks in a high transaction environment with multiple simultaneous projects.
Excellent communication and writing skills
Experience using CUNYFirst (PeopleSoft)

Administers various Human Resources functions and programs for one or more employee group(s) exercising discretion and independent judgment.
Oversees two or more human resources functions for an employee group, such as, but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, employee relations, appointment administration, compensation, human resource information systems (HRIS), training and development, benefits, and/or administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
Ensures human resources functions, programs, and actions are in compliance with university rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and college policies and procedures.
Interprets and provides professional counsel and advice to employees and managers on HR programs and policies, CUNY rules, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. Researches and resolves multifaceted human resources issues.
Recommends new approaches, best practices, policies, and systems to improve office efficiency and services provided.
Performs related duties as assigned.
