The Human Resources Generalist provides strategic and operational leadership and coordination in assigned areas of responsibility to support the vision, mission and goals of the University. The HR Employment Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level in the following functional areas: recruitment and hiring, onboarding, policy implementation, employment law compliance, and diversity & inclusion.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)
Support assigned university departments with all HR-related functions and questions
Manage all aspects of job postings & advertising, support hiring managers/search committee chairs with interview logistics, and so forth.
Screen incoming resumes in collaboration with hiring manager/search committee chair and participate in interviewing process as appropriate
Maintain all applicant records in a legally compliant manner
Ensure that USJ policies & practices are followed with regard to filling open positions, approvals, etc.
Continually explore variety of recruiting options, ensure that data is available to determine relative effectiveness of various recruiting strategies, and recommend targeted recruiting plans to increase pool of qualified diverse candidates for each vacancy.
Support hiring managers through one-on-one consultation and formal training to develop effective candidate screening and interviewing processes.
Ensure that recruiting-related data collection and reporting meets legal and institutional needs.
Manage the pre-employment background checks process, ensure that offered/accepted candidates receive appropriate new hire materials; conduct new hire orientation bi-weekly
Support payroll processes with timely processing of adjunct faculty contracts, temporary agreements, and graduate assistant paperwork
Maintain current job descriptions for all staff positions.
Conduct annual and as-needed compensation analysis for faculty and staff positions; provide compensation recommendations for new hires and current employees.
Maintain knowledge and awareness of salary budgets and notify appropriate department heads of potential issues.
Support employee engagement and development on campus; serve as the initial point-person for employee relations concerns
Conduct employee exit interviews and summarize turnover data for yearly review.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Human Resources team, particularly the second HR Generalist, to ensure University objectives and strategic plans are met
Coordinate data for annual reporting (i.e. the Affirmative Action Plan).
Identify and propose process improvements to increase timeliness and effectiveness of Human Resource functions.
Outstanding organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle several tasks simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in task/project accomplishment.
Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with candidates, colleagues, external constituents and students
Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion.
Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, preferably Microsoft Office software, and possess solid general computer, math, and analysis skills. Familiarity with ADP or other HR/Payroll software a plus.
Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision
Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public
Cultural competency to work with diverse employee and/or student population
