Provide clerical support and customer service to all University employees. To comprehend and effectively process and communicate the University’s policies. To research and have basic knowledge of laws, regulations and compliances relevant to Human Resources. Maintains confidentiality and dignity of customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(1)Provide clerical and administrative support to all areas, including senior-level managers, within the Human Resources and Payroll Department by researching, collecting, analyzing, organizing, preparing materials and information for correspondence, reports and overall processing. (2)Assist in the implementation and application of human resources, benefits and payroll policies and procedures. (3)Assist with recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation, benefits, payroll processing and procedures within the department. (4) Advise management of questions and problems related to human resources issues. (5) Respond to questions about human resources issues, or refer such questions to the appropriate person. (6) Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all University of Detroit Mercy information. (7) Record data including entering employee information into appropriate electronic systems and furnish reports as requested. (8) Examines employee files to answer inquiries and provide information to authorized persons, including all employment verifications. (9) Notifies employees of upcoming VISA expiration and creates VISA letters. (10) Recruit, hire and supervise student employees for the area and monitor work flow. (11) Prepare and assist in the preparation of notices and communications. (12) Update employment posters University-wide. (13) Coordinate employee orientation and other employee recognition programs. (14) Assist with other human resources departmental projects. (15) Process mail for members of the office: retrieving, sorting, distributing, and preparing for mail delivery. (16) Maintain and reorder supplies for the office as needed. (17) Manage HR and Payroll emails including organizing, responding to messages or forwarding to appropriate personnel. Serve as point of contact for the office by answering the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, directing callers to the appropriate person(s), and taking and forwarding messages as appropriate. (18) Serve as contact for the copier, facsimile machines, maintenance and housekeeping for the area, assisting individuals with problems and contacting the appropriate department or vendor when service or supplies are needed. (19) Serve as emergency response coordinator for HR/Payroll. (20) Prepares meeting agendas and acts as recording secretary. (21) Other duties as assigned.
Education: A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school
Experience: Two years to five years
Experience in Paylocity products preferred.

Job requires repetitively lifting light weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities.
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
$16.14 per hour
Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
