About the Position:
The Director, HR & Administration – Facilities, is a key member of the Facilities executive staff. Responsible for all personnel matters relating to a diverse departmental population in excess of 300 employees, the Director serves as HR advisor, fine-tuning procedures and standards to improve the quality and efficiency of the department's HR functions. This position reports to the AVP, Business Services within Facilities and is located at our Fairfax, VA campus.
Provides close liaison with individual directors, superintendents, managers, and supervisors concerning recruitment, salary offers, orientation, evaluations, in-band adjustments, job descriptions and classification, terminations/resignations, training, discipline, and grievances;
Serves as an advisor regarding compliance with federal and state law and University policy; serving as internal consultant regarding issues relating to hiring, evaluating, compensation, discipline, and terminations;
Serves as Facilities diversity, inclusion, and compliance officer. As such, it is the Director's responsibility to oversee the departments activity relating to upholding the university's effort to create an inclusive and diverse community that reflects the diversity of the National Capital Region. This position will ensure that diversity and inclusion is at the forefront in all HR actions to include: recruitment, promotions and advancement, and training and development opportunities. These actions will be carried out for all employees and applicants for employment regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sex age, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, gender identity, gender expression, or any other trait or status protected by applicable law. The Director will also be responsible for updating, tracking and reporting on the department's Diversity and Inclusion Plan;
Serves as consultant to the AVP, Business Services and VP, Facilities and other department directors on all matters relating to employee issues and organizational structure and design;
Manages the department's apprenticeship program, performance evaluation program and process, as well as, various university programs that impact Facilities.
Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business, and/or Finance;
Successful applicants must have significant HR management experience (equivalent to 15+ years) to include: recruitment, compensation, and employee relations;
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary human resource theory and practice;
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff and students at all levels;
Demonstrated planning, organizational and problem solving abilities;
Ability to conduct effective interviews and counseling sessions and render sensitive guidance in personnel issues;
Knowledge of multicultural competencies; demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace. is essential.
Masters degree in Business Administration.
