The Dalton School, a K-12 independent, gender inclusive school located in Manhattan, is consistently recognized as one of the top independent day schools in the nation. It has a total enrollment of approximately 1,300 students and approximately 350 faculty and staff.
We are seeking an experienced human resources professional with outstanding people skills to ensure that our human resources programs and initiatives are effective and aligned with the School’s mission. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a high work ethic, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking abilities, strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The exceptional HR director should improve HR processes, implement strategies that support best practices, support effective hiring and employee retention, enhance safety and wellness, strengthen relations between faculty/staff and administration, and serve as an effective representative of the School.
Plans, leads, and implements policies, processes, and initiatives to support the School’s human resource needs.
Oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and talent management.
Monitors and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Develops and executes best practices for recruitment and retention.
Manages the School’s onboarding and offboarding processes.
Collaborates with senior administrators on disciplinary matters, investigation, performance and talent management.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Actively contributes and participates in the School’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives.
Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
At least five years of human resource management experience required.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP a plus.
Proficiency with HRIS and talent management systems, preferably ADP Workforce Now.
Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.
