In support of the Aims of a Punahou Education, the Office of Human Resources co-creates, facilitates, and maintains an environment that supports, develops and sustains the well-being and organizational effectiveness of the Punahou School community. It provides resources in the areas of organizational development, human resource information management, recruitment and retention, compensation, benefits, and employee relations. Working together in a spirit of continuous improvement and collaboration, the Office of Human Resource Development seeks effective, creative, and feasible solutions that meet the needs of a changing campus community while anticipating the challenges presented by a constantly changing world. The department aims to attract, nurture, and retain an inspiring, dedicated and knowledgeable faculty and staff; and to create a work environment for all employees characterized by high expectations, productivity, healthy communication, ongoing support and professional growth.
The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) reports to the Vice President of Finance and Operations and is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of Punahou School. The incumbent will lead the School in areas including compensation and benefits, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compliance. The CHRO will craft and implement an organizational talent strategy to enable organizational strategic goals, leading and continuously developing a customer-focused HR team and serving as a trusted advisor to peers and Trustees.
Develops, executes, monitors, and evaluates the organizational talent strategy. Enables the school to meet its short-, medium-, and long-term strategic direction and goals.
Acts as trusted advisor to the senior leadership team. Ensures strategic alignment with the organization as well as organizational trust in, and partnership with, the HR function. Builds, leads, and develops the Human Resources team. Ensures that the HR team is strategically aligned with the school, and in turn, the school has trust in, and partnership with, the HR function. The CHRO, with the HR team, has the appropriate capability (subject-matter expertise, competency, and capacity) across the spectrum of HR functions including, but not limited to:

Champions a positive organizational culture, with a focus on the working experience of faculty and staff.
Provides analysis, support, and recommendations to the senior leadership and Board of Trustees regarding talent-related issues. Improves line of sight for talent-related metrics, programs, and employee engagement. Develops robust executive succession plans and effective, equitable executive compensation plans.
Manages talent-related compliance and risk issues. Reduces legal exposure.
Develops and monitors resources and budgets. Allocates budgets and resources appropriately in order to attain desired return on investment from the HR function.
Works with senior leadership to identify diversity and inclusion goals, and to encourage and support efforts to recruit and retain a diverse student body, faculty, and staff offering appropriate assistance to leaders to achieve diverse applicant pools for faculty and staff positions.
Analyzes and understands workforce trends to inform strategic direction and decisions. Uses people analytics to predict trends, inform decisions around talent acquisition and promote an engaged and productive workforce.
Presents regularly to the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and school-wide audiences.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in HR, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Adult Education, Business, or related field. Master’s degree (or equivalent) in HR, Business, Organizational Development, or related field preferred.
Minimum 15 years’ progressive HR experience, including experience interacting with executive teams and boards of directors.
Human Resources certification (e.g. SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, etc) preferred.
Experience in complex change and/or program management.
Proven track record of providing strategic human resources leadership in complex organizations of similar size and type.
A solid track record of leading and successfully supporting organizational change in a comparably complex organization.
Thorough knowledge of Hawaii State labor and employment-law and regulations.
Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems.
Ability to manage one's emotions and behaviors in different situations
Proven ability to engage others in cross-functional collaboration.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Awareness of appropriate transparency and use of communication to develop sense of belonging, community and connection
