Reporting to the Director of Payroll & HRIS, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Payroll unit within the Department of Human Resources. Specific duties include: supervising the Human Resource’s Payroll staff; maintaining knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as well as University System policies and procedures and how they translate to University specific business processes and systems requirements including onboarding and job transactions; independently troubleshooting and resolving complex human resource and payroll issues under time constraints; managing the Non-Resident Alien/Resident Alien and tax treaty processes and addressing complex work eligibility situations; maintaining audit standards and implementing processes to support evolving compliance requirements including I-9 compliance, dual employment and other HR/Payroll related processes; working closely with the Director to continuously improve back-office business processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency; developing and presenting training content; maintaining existing manuals and reference materials; compiling, analyzing and evaluating HR and payroll related information; oversee the bi-weekly check distribution process; communicating and training campus on remote work business processes and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree
Three years of related work experience
One year of supervisory responsibility
Must have excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
Independent judgment in resolving complex issues;
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines
Must be able to work in various work environments including remote.
Degree preferably in Business, Human Resource Management, Accounting or related field
Five years of related work experience
Two years supervisory experience
Higher education or public sector experience is preferred
HRIS and PeopleSoft experience strongly preferred.
