This position is a member of the Surgical Administrative Center Human Resources (SAC HR) team and reports to the SAC HR Manager. The role serves as theSenior HR Business Partner (HRBP) in SAC, and is responsible for providing HR consultation and support to faculty, staff, residents/fellows, and students in the areas of HR Operations, Staffing, Talent Management, Employee Relations, and Project Management.
Job Responsibilities: Employee Relations • Leads progressive discipline process, including investigatory meetings, disciplinary meetings, and grievance hearings as appropriate, and knows when to escalate appropriately • Consults with leadership to ensure department/unit practices comply with University policy, employment contracts, and state and federal employment laws • Consults with faculty and staff on HR policies, procedures, and best practices that govern each employee group
Staffing • Consults with leadership on all staffing needs and acts as the primary liaison between all key University and MHealth partners for entire staffing process; lead role in processing hiring pauses, financial pro-formas, and both University & MHealth offer letters • Active participant in on search committees and leads EOAA charge for department/unit • Performs detailed compensation analysis for current and incoming faculty and staff • Owns HR onboarding and offboarding activities for all staff and faculty hires
Talent Management • Leads annual performance evaluation process which includes development and facilitation of training sessions, coaching leaders and staff on process, timeline and review content, along with conducting ongoing score and merit calibration to ensure an equitable process • Leads bi-annual UMN engagement survey by providing strategic leadership to department(s) from initial planning, driving participation, analyzing results, and conducting feedback sessions • Consults leaders on talent development and performance evaluation strategies & best practices • Consults leaders on employee engagement, recognition, retention, and succession strategies • Acts as a mentor to Jr. HRBPs
HR Operations • Establishes and maintains working relationships with key University and MHealth partners • Oversees ensuring HR metrics are up-to-date • Consults on University and MHealth benefits
Project Management • Understand department/unit strategic priorities and tailor HR support to align with organizational need in order to develop solutions • Leads organizational design, including coaching managers and leaders on appropriate staffing levels and structure to maximize organizational effectiveness • Support University, Medical School, UMP, Fairview, and SAC-wide HR programs and strategic initiatives • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: • BA/BS degree in Human Resources or related field plus four years of professional HR experience, or a combination of related education and professional work experience to equal eight years • Experience working collaboratively within a complex, highly matrixed environment • Experience managing confidential matters with discretion and sensitivity • Experience working in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience navigating state and federal employment laws
Preferred Qualifications: • Previous HR experience with the University of Minnesota Medical School • Previous experience with PeopleSoft, Workday, and other HR software • Advanced HR degree(s) and/or certification(s)
