The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain is a co-educational, independent school with approximately 500 students and 110 employees. Located on 33-acres in Summerlin, Dawson is Nevada’s first Stanford University Challenge Success partner school for students in early childhood through grade eight.
The School is seeking a full-time Human Resources (HR) Generalist. This role is responsible for the administration of all areas of human resources activities for the School. The position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented person, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential matters. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding
Manage job posting process and coordinate interview and selection activities in partnership with hiring managers and search teams. New hires include full- and part-time faculty and staff, substitute teachers, after-school activities personnel, coaches, and others as needed.
Coordinate pre-employment process including background check, drug screening, and safety training for all new employees
Coordinate administrative processes for employee onboarding
Plan and support new hire orientation meetings on an ongoing basis and during the beginning of the academic year
Employment Law Compliance and Record-Keeping/HRIS
Identify and communicate/escalate changes in legal and regulatory requirements in employment law that affect the School and ensure that policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance with new and existing requirements and best practices
Interpret and explain the School’s employee policies and procedures to faculty and staff
Ensure personnel action record-keeping, file maintenance, and HRIS entry are complete and accurate, including documentation supporting teacher qualification requirements
Prepare reports and track employee information for Nevada Department of Education licensing, DASL/NAIS, and NBOA
Prepare periodic compensation reviews to ensure equity within the organization across like positions, education levels, and years of experience
Serve on the School’s Safety Committee
Report HR activity to the Chairman of the Board under the following conditions: when a significant difference of opinion exists between the Head of School or Chief Business Officer and the HR Coordinator regarding decisions that may have significant legal liability for the school.
Employee Relations, Communication, Support, and Organizational Culture
Support the Business Office and leadership team by delivering accurate information on time
Respond to employee requests and maintain professional and trusted relationships with employees that demonstrate a customer service orientation and an ability to handle confidential matters
Oversee retention and separation issues to ensure best practices and minimize compliance risk
Partner with the leadership team on all employee relations matters; work closely with leadership to resolve employee problems, including conflict resolution, employee appeals, harassment complaints, EEOC compliance, and FMLA requests
Identify process improvement opportunities to make HR and the School more efficient and effective
Support the School by planning and managing various employee events, recognition, and gifts (within budget) to promote employee culture; serve as the coordinator for the Building Unity and Dawson Spirit (BUDS) Committee.
Assist with the administration of employees benefits (enrollments, changes, terminations), including health, dental/vision, disability, and life insurance and paid leave as well as unemployment claims, as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Working knowledge of human resource principles, practices, and procedures
Ability to work collaboratively with School leadership, Business Office teammates, and other employees
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and applicants
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Proficient with GSuite, Microsoft Office Suite, or related software
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field from four-year college or university and/or equivalent experience
Three years of related experience and/or training
SHRM or HRCI certification is required
HRIS experience required; experience with Paycom preferred
