![]() University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: 33342 Salary: $4,842 - $9,591 monthly Position Description: UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 80 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events. Working alongside the CAO, Executive Director and the Recreation Leadership, the HR Manager, is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources management, ensuring consistent application and compliance with policies and procedures. They oversee the complete range of staff personnel activity, including merit and promotion actions, leave administration, employee relations, staff development and training programs, HR strategic initiatives, recruitment, job descriptions, benefits, absence management, and performance management programs. The Manager must be familiar with UC policies and labor contracts representing all Department employees including MSP, PPSM, UPTE Technical (TX), Skilled Crafts (K4) and their related benefits. The incumbent serves as a member of UCLA Recreation Management, providing a wide range of personnel and administrative support services. The position is responsible for the direct supervision of the two Human Resource Analysts, one Staff Development Coordinator, and provides support to the Division of Campus Life. Under the general supervision of the CAO, work is initiated and carried out independently, following UC and departmental policies and procedures, as well as federal and state employment law. Ability to work independently, monitor work and set schedules to ensure that deadlines are met and customers are served. Responsibilities also include: serving as a resource for departmental managers on employee benefits and retirement options; the development and delivery of HR related trainings for managers/supervisors; executing procedures and transactions related to personnel/payroll, orienting employees and supervisors; and interpreting both departmental and campus wide policies, procedures and guidelines for managers, supervisors and staff. Development of new processes and policies, and independent problem-solving are required. The Manager is the primary representative of the Department on personnel issues, implementation requirements, and objectives regarding classification of positions, diversity, absence management/leaves, grievances, employee development, conflict resolution, and HR systems. The HR Manager works closely with the CAO and Director to create a workplace that fosters teamwork and supports the continued excellence of the Department. The qualified candidate will possess the ability to navigate the complexities associated with payroll/personnel and workforce administration and apply their knowledge in the UCPath environment, and must possess a high aptitude for developing and analyzing various reports to assist department leadership in decision making.
