Reporting to the HR Director, the Human Resources Partner is responsible for providing expert Human Resources knowledge, leadership, and consultation to employees and managers throughout Graduate School, a hybrid academic/administrative organization comprised of staff across 12 administrative units and 16 interdisciplinary degree programs. Specifically, the Human Resources Partner provides HR generalist expertise as part of an evolving HR unit and supports the organizational development initiatives of the Graduate School. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Human Resource Administration The HR Partner will provide HR expertise in the areas of counseling and training regarding hiring, performance management and corrective action; facilitating partnership with labor relations; and expediting successful complaint resolution. Sample duties include: • Manage all aspects of the recruitment process for professional and classified staff and student positions ranging from job description development to final hire. • Analyze, review and take action on compensation change requests, promotions, in-grade salary increases, and reclassifications. • Advise managers on the onboarding and exiting processes for staff. • Independently advise and provide resourceful solutions to diverse and varied first-tier employee relations issues within the parameters of all regulations, laws, policies and procedures. • Provide direction and counsel regarding salary equity, retention, recruitment, complaint and grievance investigations, awards and recognition, staffing assessment, complex leave issues, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and dismissals, etc. in collaboration with the HR Director. • Manage, administer and advise on compliance with Federal, State and UW policies (i.e., FMLA, ADA, State Ethics compliance). Organizational Development The HR Partner will actively support the HR Director in launching Organizational Development initiatives and engage in continuous improvement efforts to build organizational community and culture. Sample duties include: • Develop, implement and participate in Graduate School-wide community building activities that foster staff engagement. • Develop, analyze and revise Graduate School HR processes and policies under the direction of the HR Director. Draft guidelines, procedures and policies as necessary. • Manage and support the assessment of leadership and team needs; design, implement and evaluate programs and facilitate the professional development and continuous learning of team members. • Partner with HR Director to create and support an inclusive culture through development opportunities focused on Graduate School and UW values and organizational capabilities. Operations Support The HR Partner will serve as an in-unit expert for UW’s HR systems and will be involved with HR reports and managing and maintaining employee records. Sample duties include: • Run Workday reports as needed for the HR Director and Dean. • Manage and maintain Graduate School HR metrics and tracking systems. • Maintain confidential HR documentation in accordance with UW Records Management policies and procedures. • Review, update and edit HR content on the Graduate School’s intranet. Miscellaneous • Other duties as assigned to support the mission, goals, and strategic plan of the Graduate School and the University of Washington. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or other related field •Two to three years of experience in human resources or related field. •Ability to analyze, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations in problem solving and consulting regarding employment. •Intrinsically motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results. Recognizes and seizes opportunities. •Works to resolve conflicts and differences through dialog and open communication in a timely manner. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventive labor relations. •Knowledge of UW HR policies and procedures. •Experience working in a unionized environment. •Experience with UW systems, specifically Workday and UWHires.
