The Village is a full-service municipality with nearly 500 employees across ten (10) departments. Skokie was the first community in the United States to have a nationally accredited Fire, Police and Public Works Departments. The Human Resources Director is responsible for overseeing an $8.14 million employee benefit budget and an approximately $300,000 operating budget. The total budget for all funds in Skokie is $125 million.
The Human Resources Director reports to the Village Manager and, along with the HR Specialist, is responsible for all human resource functions including, organizational diversity, inclusion and equity strategies, talent management, benefit administration, employee relations, recruiting, compensation, labor relations, disciplinary matters, and training. Qualified individuals will be expected to have:
A minimum of ten (10) years of human resources experience, including serving in a position in a community or organization of comparable size and complexity.
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, management, business, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a related field and/or related human resources certifications are preferred.
Considerable experience in collaborating with staff on employee issues and a desire to pursue modern management concepts, human resources best practices, and innovative strategies/techniques.
Practice as a pragmatic problem solver who will help identify solutions and manage processes to facilitate effective human resource administration, procedures, policies, and programs.
Foster a diverse, respectful, welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all employees and develop strategies, policies and practices that support a diverse organization and ensures ongoing training to support long-term cultural success.

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000 +/- depending on qualifications and experience. Residency in the Village of Skokie is not required.
