POSITION SUMMARY: Provides leadership in developing and executing human resource strategy that supports Pace’s overall strategic direction for a progressive K-12 independent school with approximately 300 full and part-time employees, and an additional 150 seasonal employees. Directs and coordinates all human resources activities including employment, compensation, compliance, employee relations, benefits, employee services, policy development, and change management. Drives business value through designing and implementing policies that advance the organization. Coordinates with senior leadership of the school, serving as a trusted business partner for the leadership team. This is a very hands-on position and requires an ability to be both strategic and involved in all aspects of delivering on Human Resources issues and responsibilities.
RESPONSIBLE FOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensures that Pace is in full compliance with applicable federal and state laws regarding human resources and the administration of employee benefits. This includes but is not limited to ADA, COBRA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, HIPPA, EEO, Worker’s Compensation, USERRA, and annual 5500 returns for ERISA welfare benefit and defined benefit plans and all record-keeping and annual reporting needs (i.e., 5500s)
Develops and maintains the school’s personnel policy, procedures, employee handbook, personnel forms, and recommends changes to school administration
Maintains data for personnel sections of surveys within independent schools (i.e., INDEX, NAIS, SAIS, etc.)
Provides training to all administrators, managers and supervisors on applicable employment laws (ADA, FMLA, etc.) re: interviewing, discipline, terminations, etc.
Conducts an annual review of existing benefits programs for necessary changes and improvements; partners with CFO to review budgetary needs for benefits programs. Negotiates contracts and services with employee assistance program providers, and background reporting agencies
Directs preparation and distribution of communications to inform employees of benefits programs such as insurance plans, retirement plans, paid time off, and special employer-sponsored activities
Partners with CFO to ensure compliance with all 403b regulations – new plan document, SPD, annual audit, etc.
Employee Relations and Performance Management:
Builds positive relationships across the organization, brings the employee perspective to relevant strategic human capital initiatives, promotes employee satisfaction and wellness and ensures a positive working environment
Consult, influence, and partner with all levels of management regarding critical and complex employee relations decisions in the areas of performance management, harassment, business conduct, terminations, restructuring, policies, guidelines, and best practices
Ensure associate relation investigations are timely, objective, thorough, documented, and escalated in adherence to company policies, processes, and standard methodologies
Partner with legal counsel on assessing and resolving employment-related concerns and risks, lawsuit discovery, and litigation preparation
Staffing, Recruiting, and Onboarding:
Works in conjunction with leadership on the strategic planning process for the staffing needs of the school. Coordinates recruitment with school departments and application processing. Oversees background screening for all new employees (reference checks, criminal history, and MVR)
Manages the employment agreement process
Manages new employee orientation process
Management and Leadership:
Take accountability for the development and growth of the Human Resources team
Provides learning platforms for continual learning for all employees
This position is directly responsible for managing an HR generalist
